.kkapture 0.01 - demo capturing made easy (hopefully)

category: code [glöplog]
sagacity: cygwin git is a cygwin-program, and uses LF as the platform-native newline format, so it's a non-issue. Git for Windows (commonly mistaken as "msysGit" -- msysGit is the project and the development environment used to produce Git for Windows) doesn't even work reliably if cygwin is present in PATH :P

What CAN be an issue is when you're editing files in Windows over CIFS from a unix server, and you're using a unix shell to build and check in/out. But then you've basically told your Windows-editor to open a unix-file, so you should make sure your editor can handle unix-files.

There will never exist a solution that pleases everybody in every situation here, all we can do is make sure most people are happy with the default settings, and make it easy and clear what the options are. This is a field where Git is currently lacking, but I suggest moving further discussions on the matter to the Git mailing list ;)

git under windows is a pain...

current version on gitorious now gets rid of the detours dependency (by replacing it with the MIT-licensed Mhook). currently adds ~100k to compiled kkapturedll because it includes a full-featured disassembler (i removed most of the metadata to make the tables smaller, but it's still a lot of code). need to add some minor features from my todo list and then it's time for a new release :)

Can't wait ryg. :D
ryg, could you add drag and drop for the demo filename fields and/or that kkapture remembers the last path used (store to registry, ini or EXE) and starts browsing from there? Would be awesome...

hei ryg, you are alive!

some weeks ago I sent you a desperate email about a kkrunchy bug (yes I know it's not the subject here).

hopefully it worked with the last (party) version of my intro, so it was ok :)

heh, capturing a demo made with osdm doesn't seem to work, not sure if the need to fix that is really urgent :D

Hey Ryg, hope you don't mind. I've been directing a few friends that use minecraft to kkapture.
did kkapture support win98 ? i'm asking this because i want to capture a old demo that only run on that os (and dont not want to install win98 if you already know it is not working)

maybe you can kkapturre virtualbox? :D
yep thats what i will do. i already try kkapture under xp with virtualbox, it works like a charm.

i dont know what is the problem with that demo. it crash in the middle certainly due to a memory access violation. i was wondering if there might be a possibility to say to windows : "if the program try to read an invalid mem address, just ignore it" (the wrong memory address read should give zero).
or it crash maybe its because the demo is using directx8

Tigrou: um, no, you can't tell that to windows - that would somewhat mean you're trying to break basic rules that shaped its architecture in nowaday form.

i dont remeber exactly but i thing some debuggers (like ollydbg) can ignore some exceptions (not sure if it is memory exceptions)

tigrou: i'm using some stuff that's win2k+ only (e.g. waitable timers), so it won't work on anything lower than that.

trying to capture this ends up in the process ending in random places, usually very beginning.

is there any way to run git via standard network ports? e.g. port 443/80/21 or so?
Hookay. I blew something up.

Running windows XP, intel graphics (yeah yeah, I'm on a netbook, so sue me) - I got kkapture to get the sound output from STS-04 - ONCE. But I terminated the process early (using esc-key in demo) as I needed to do something else.

Now kkapture isn't generating anything at all when run with a demo - no log, no .avi, no .wav. What the balls?

Tested with STS-04, kings of the playground, FR-025 and cna-queen. I suspect it's something that's happened locally but I have no other machine to test on and i can't replicate the issue.

When I try to capture http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=55891 I get an CRC error (probably from the demo) after a short while.
I'm running Win7 SP1 x64 and encode to HuffyUV 2.1.1.

So anybody has already tried to really kkapture (or capture in any other way) antimoney? I'm desperately looking for ideas on a) how to make this intro work on win xp (or any other &ç*%ç operating system) and b) capture it (which should probably be easy once it actually runs).

also: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=285

any help/ideas/suggestions and "get out of this thread"-comments are appreciated :-)

IIRC Antimoney runs just fine in WINE under Linux, if you have 512x384 set up as a screen mode.

unlock, rez: Your prayers have been heard. Windows XP me beautiful

Now somebody go and make a nice capture of it. Don't forget to use CRF mode in x264; there's a lot of noise in there =)
