ICQ never worked for people with weak memory like me.

I just searched my icq number on google and met my adolescent myself.
that's btw NOT my icq number!
Ah icq! I remember having an 8 digit number and talking to friends through dial-up all night while listening to .RA files I had downloaded from Bob Rivers' website! Oh 1997, you glorious, glorious year!

Irrelevant fact: I had a friend who didn't want to use ICQ back in the times, because it was made by a Jew.

I think I used ojuice.net mostly to copy/paste my icq number from my profile. Whoever thought a bunch of assigned numbers was a good way to handle individuals was an asshole.

ICQ is mostly infested by spambots nowadays... I stopped using it since I got friend authorization requests every 5 minutes with loads of garbled text in random languages. Otherwise it's ok.

What like telephone #'s, bank accounts & pin, social security/NHS/Medicare, CRN, TFN etc.?
Since the no. of permutations for 8 digits is finite surely icq must have had some way of allowing for a system of recognition other than simply assigning a random (I'm guessing) no. per user. Shirley....

ICQ users are identified by numbers called UIN, distributed in sequential order. The UIN was first invented by Mirabilis, as the user name assigned to each user upon registration. The meaning is either Universal Internet Number or Unified Identification Number. Issued UINs started at number 10000 (5 digits) and every user receives a UIN when first registering to ICQ.
