Kindergarden 2012

category: parties [glöplog]
Hey guys, I'm going to bring 2 more people with me this year, we've already booked our trip to Norway (a 20 hr cruise on the Colorline ferry, woot!)

Is it possible to purchase food-tickets through paypal? That'd be awesome, otherwise I might need some help working out how to set up a bank transfer as I've not done that with Norway before.

Looking forward to meeting everyone again \o/

Nice to hear about the added visitors!

Paypal will not be available, but it really isn't all that hard to set up a bank transfer :)

That's the second time in 2 days that someone tell me I live in the 80s. God damn it!

I tried the transfer thingy but my bank doesn't want to recognize the IBAN / BIC combination, or maybe I'm stuck in the 80's myself ... anyway, 80's ain't that bad, lol

xrs: If you can tell me your paypal address (through #scenesat on IRC I guess, or does pouet have a PM system!?) I'll be using that to send the payments. Appreciate the help ^^

What did the bank error say? Would be nice to know if the error was on our end (barring not having Paypal in the first place, that is - that is a feature).

Not accepting PayPal is pretty daft, IMHO. You're making it harder than it needs to be to preorder tickets.

Before the masses adopted paypal* into their systems, bank transfers were the way to go to send monies to foreign countries. I know for a fact it still works fine (:

(* also within the EU/EEG a bank transfer does not come with any 'hidden' costs)

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go to Outline and X, then buy marrakech tea and horses for KG :P

Well to be fair, I can understand that because paypal will take its share of the cash, not that much but still significant if you have a lot of pre-orders (like with Nordlicht, we only accepted pre-orders and no tickets at the door) At the same time it makes a party more accessible .. it all has its pros and cons!

leijaa: It just tells me it 'cannot find the specified bank' after filling in the 4 fields that are: "Name of Bank" / "Country" (drop down list) / "IBAN or ACC #" and "BIC or Bank Code"

"shrugs" .. there's not much more than copy / paste that I can do :/

Actually nevermind, I think I figured it out!

Haohmaru: it works fine, it's just way more inconvenient and more expensive.

SunSpire: IBAN transfer is way more expensive than PayPal btw.

Also, if it's the PayPal fee you're afraid of (it's roughly 3%, depending on the origin currency), then simply pass on those fees to the ticket buyer. That's what we do at Solskogen, and it doesn't stop us from having a record turnout every year :)

Is it really still expensive tho? I've never used it in my life for that very reason - because fees used to be ridiculous. But years later and the internet tells you many different things about IBAN, some say it costs a lot of money, other say it's free .. I have no idea but I figured I'd rather not touch it unless I really have to :P

SunSpire: well, I sent a modest sum to Sweden on two occasions in the last month, and the fees (Nordea) were 150,- NOK on each transfer. That's pretty crazy.

Actually, the IBAN transfer is only expensive if you don't make it an EU transfer.

You just have to follow the EU transfer rules (send the money in Euro, share the expenses between the sender and the receiver) and voila, no 150,- NOK fee.

(And yes, I know Norway is not in the EU, it still follows that rule because of the EEC).

.. I used to live in Finland and ship money between my finnish and norwegian account on various occasions.. Was a nightmare in fees before they started allowing EU transfers by which time the nightmare in fees vanished..

Sunspire: Try the different ones for Oslo here then? It's one of the biggest banks in Norway so it should surely find it ;)

... or you could open an account i a bank that supports multiple countries :-)
So Gloom: Did you go for the non profit organization option when you set up the account?

(Would have checked your website but you want to keep the account information secret for now it seems).

leia: I have no earthly idea of what you are talking about. :) Are you talking about the bank account? Or the PayPal account?

Any foreign attendees having problems transferring money to our account (that has not already received assistance by the lovely, lovely Xerxes) can contact me by email for instructions on how to paypal money to us. We require the following information to be present; Real Name, Nick, phone number and information on what you are paying for (meal tickets etc). We will require a 5€ fee to cover transfer expenses if you wish to use the paypal option. Sorry.

The email is menace ass spaceballs dot norway. If you can't figure it out, you don't get any cake.

gloom: The Paypal account. To do it right (tm) you'd have to tell Paypal you're a non profit organisation, which creates all kinds of administrative hassle including giving paypal your birth certificate, your mums dogs, your daughters birthday presents and lots of other over the top things...

But since you didn't know what i was on about, i assume you went for the "send the money to an organizers private account" option.

Also, what menace said..

leia: I didn't know what you were on about because you didn't specify what you were on about. :)

We used to have a non-profit account, but since it was linked to Ole-Marius which hadn't arranged Solskogen in many, many years, and also linked to a different bank account, changing it was too much trouble. So we started using my private one instead, which is a pro and verified account, with lower fees.

The reason neither the PayPal nor the bank account information is visible on the website is that we simply don't allow direct payments that way any more. All sales this year went through Eventbrite, which handles everything, including food and t-shirt orders, meaning that all order info is handled in one central place -- making it way easier to tally and manage.

So no -- no great "hide the info"-conspiracy, I'm afraid. :)
