gloom: I know that, but I don't know who actually owns scene.org. Internic WHOIS displays "The International Scene Organization RY" - so I guess that's some sort of organization by Dutch law. As I'm not an expert in Dutch law I don't know what that actually means (i.e. who is legally in charge of deciding whether there is a subdomain named hugi.scene.org, for example).

I don't even know how to respond to this gibberish so I'll just assume it's trolling. Either way: the domain name is not the important part here, let's stick to the issue at hand.

@dipswitch: Great ;) Still cant see what made you think differently at first. My posts were kind of crystal clear about my opinions...

I'd like someone to acknowledge that I am right with this:

Quote:
What we need is this:

All data should be published (the pouet DB).
All code should be published.

Then, the leader question can be resolved without repression.

:]

I think nobody acknowledges this because we came to that conclusion like 30 pages ago.

WTF? pay respect at least to your work and give it a proper version number than a commit string...

Defiance, if that is not bikeshedding, I don't know what it is

Why is it not done yet?

proper version number is not a minor issue...

He also mentioned this as well.
I don't have a github account and can't be bothered to make one for commenting, but feel free to use my data (user id #4950) for testing purposes. I have shitloads of glöps from various things.

Quote from the source for those not in link-following mood, this is the comment from analogue:
Quote:
Just got this idea while washing my teeth: What about dumping the data submitted by people which explicitly agree to see their data dumped ? I can be the 1st one.

Technically it means something like "mysqldump where user_id IN (list_of_users_ok_with_it)", and for now list_of_users_ok_with_it would be me.

It will keep the dump small, legal, and real.

What do you think ?

A few have commented below agreeing to allow their data to be dumped. So if you want a dump, or to be part of the dump, you should contact analogue / comment on the github issue indicating your wish.
Sooo, exporting data over a REST api is no legal problem, but dumping it (cleaned from all personal information) is not possible?

I don't see the difference here, I'm afraid. People should now opt-in to have their data included in an export, while all of that data is freely available on the internet already?

Doesn't seem logical to me.

I can’t help but wonder why it’s okay to take ownership of source code of half a dozen people but it’s not okay to publish information submitted by users which is already publicly available.

Well, by signing up here and posting I've agreed to have whatever I post publicly displayed on pouet. I haven't agreed to have that data used for other stuff - what if the database is sold to advertising companies for profiling say? I didn't agree to that, and I'd be pissed off if it happened (not that it ever will I hope :)

So legally, yeah, I can imagine that there are issues with a public dump. But no, I don't understand how they can be avoided with a REST api either. I'm not a lawyer though.

The opt-in is intended for a minor *definitely* legal dump that people can use for local development and test. Unrelated to the issue of full db dump.

Don't know why I'm explaining what analogue is doing.

President Obama issues executive order to make government data open and machine readable

Quote:
According to the White House blog, this means new data will be served in CSV, XML, JSON and other machine readable formats, and will even be accessible via API in some situations.

Even the USA are doing it ;)

Huh... I'm not sure what made you think that I support Analogue's coup, so let's try to put it in the most polite way possible:

I'm thankful to Analogue for creating Pouet.net some 13 years ago. For the rest, .... I have been mildly unimpressed by the code and attitude.

The sanest scenario was to let Gargaj et al. finish the foundations of Pouet 2, with some more help if needed in some areas. Then go open source. Maybe. Pouet 0.9 is NOT the way forward. For sure Pouet 2 is not perfect but it is built with the experience gained with Pouet 0.9.

What has happened this week is the stupidest shitstorm of all Pouet shitstorms.

The only really private stuff is the passwords - isn't it? Isn't everything else in the DB visible on the site already?
added on the 2013-05-11 01:10:42 by vibrator vibrator
pouet.net doesn't store passwords.
vibrator, that was covered by D. Fox and gargaj.

Maybe I should read more of the thread =) I'm lazy. Someone should sum up the results on a page.

psonice, and how have you agreed or not agreed to anything? I checked a couple of the “Submit” links, and none of them mention anything about any restrictions on how the data you submit is used by the site which probably—again—means that the site owner now owns that data and can do with it whatever he wants.
