Finnish Amiga Party 2013

category: parties [glöplog]
grogon: Nice list! However, I'm "pretty sure" that Dekadence demo isn't called Norwegian Kindness. ;)
It was so close! :) Thanks for the note!

I will correct if there are any more discrepancies.

Thanks for that link, nosfe!

Excellent protracker compo. A pity that they cut half of the notes in the videostream. But finally I can listen to all channels using only my ears without the need to combine eyes and ears in a sort of synesthetic fashion! x]

Finnish Party Voters vote crazy or how do I have to understand the 5th place in the PT Compo? :P

Heh, thanks, dudes. I think Jugis tune should have won.
I put my tune up to my soundcloud page, so if anyone is interested in a mp3-Version, you can download there for free:

Your tune is great too, Triace! I just listened to it twice as I was going through the PT mod releases.

I've become somewhat cynical about music compos in general over the recent years. I've come to consider them throwaway compos that no one really cares about. The fact that I could mention a couple of cases where there have, funnily enough, been a lot more voters than there have been people actually present at the party place during the compo hasn't helped either. I have usually entered something at music compos if I've happened to have a tune ready, but I haven't felt enthusiastic about it, and I haven't felt like it really has anything to do with the demoscene anymore.

The Protracker compo at FAP 2013 was a very welcome change, and for me, a definite scene highlight of the year. First of all, quality of the entries surprisingly high. Triace's tune and Emerald Hill Romance are the first that come to mind, but if I listened to the compo again I could probably name almost any song from the compo as an example. Not only that, but for the first time in years, I actually enjoyed making an entry.

Thanks to the organizers and the other competitors for this experience. Thank you very much. It made an already excellent party weekend even better.

I agree with you on that jobe, and: nice tune from you also, surely has a "special mood" in there :)

What I heard was a great variety of styles. Only thing I am not really sure about is that a "no tracking at all joke-entry" could rank that high. I remember the big parties in the early 90s where those entries weren't allowed to participate in the compos.

For keeping the quality of a compo high, I would suggest the organizers to make a little pre-selection (if there are enough entries)...but on the others side: Hey, we're all grown up and we do this just for fun, so who cares about those fun entries?

hmmm....twisted minded about this

And the party with only serious high-quality entries in the music compo was... where, when? The more entries, the more the scene is alive, imho. Quality is a matter of taste. If you ask me, most scene music is crap, because breakbeat techno is crap.

Jurying at a small party? That will only lead to endless complaints when someone's entry didn't get shown and a ruined party mood for that person. Better just play them all, both the good and the bad. And about voting, voters are always wrong, no matter what size the party is. :-)

I have to agree on the quality of the PT compo though.. While I was playing them on the screen, I caught myself thinking that if this compo had been at a party in 1992, some of the modules would have ended up in EVERYONE's collection and they'd go on to become classics.

So I really must congratulate the contestants in this year's PT compo, the quality was indeed top notch. <3

And so is dubstep, techno, pop, rock and classic.....as you said, all a matter of taste.

Guess you're right with this and with people discussing about this its far better than nobody caring :)

@ Jope: Let's wait until 2034 ;)

and you surely are right that jurys voting is not the right way either. So let's continue blasting the Hell out of Paula and let us surprise what the Party ppl. vote \o/

We thought about streaming FAP compos at Demoverse, but when I connected to the stream all we got to see was a wall of porn /o\

Can't wait to check out your releases tho!
