heh, yeah, i saw the thread. thanks for all the trouble you've went through to remedy the situation, guys :)

i just resorted to contacting the dude through bandcamp a minute ago and advising him to cease and desist his shit before i open a can of medieval whoop-ass. not necessarily in those words, but you catch my drift.

the funniest thing is - well no, two of the funniest things are:
- "a synthetic device" (or "decoded funk" in his terms) is a 4k .xm, and as such its appeal was more in the micro-optimization/tracker wankery department and less in the "genuinely good tune" department
- it plays hilariously wrong on the album, the sine wave melody shouldn't be just one note repeated over and over. so basically he recorded it using winamp or some equally crappy player. not that i'm surprised.

i'm also 100% certain that every single track on "moondust ambience" is a ripped chiptune, including the unidentified ones. the "amiga remix" of neon corporation too. some chiptune afficionados would probably recognize them.

The SoundCloud for that guy seems to be gone now. I wonder, as with the Bandcamp if the guy was trying to get away or if the service took down the user ... In case it changes later, the link above by 3lexton was "pwned" by someone as shown below:

i got a reply from him:

I've removed them from route note and closed my accound around a week ago. If the songs are still there it must be that the system that uploads them to those sites must still be working.

Sorry - Neon

so basically... the album ended up on amazon through routenote, and he deleted his account on routenote, and i'm guessing they don't automatically remove stuff from amazon if an account gets deleted. or maybe it's just taking a while. so i told him to contact routenote and get it sorted.

oh and also, i have no idea what's up with the posts on that facebook page :) my guess is he got spooked by me contacting him directly and went slightly mental.

Lol, did he apologize for being a thieving bastard though?

well, i did get a "sorry" :)

Maybe the bum went "mental" to make the whole thing to look as messy as possible for any outsider to make any sense of it and thus find out his lamorism :)

there must be some scene equivalent of the darwin award that we can award to this douche.

visibilising looming lamorism in "his" tunes. :)

Speaking of wrong played songs, I'm pretty sure Satellite One was also playing wrong - that one exploits a ScreamTracker pecularity that many players (even XMPlay) don't emulate properly, which results in a prominent hanging note around one minute in.
Sting: Heheh yes that word comes indeed from that funny scroll :D

It appears it is no longer. I had contacted PM through Facebook to let him know, in addition to reed's suggestion that the artist contact routenote to have it removed. (Since I kind of figured he would do squat.) PM said he would send them an e-mail. Amazon's search also brings up "neonspider is unavailable" so I think it's pretty well down.
So here's a fun little thing... "Who Stole What" is a podcast about plagiarism in music, and the latest episode is all about the Timbaland incident. (They got in touch to ask if I still had a recording of the radio interview he did, and happily I was able to dig it out for them to preserve for posterity.)

As is often the case with this sort of coverage, there are a couple of factual inaccuracies that will make you wince... but take it for what it is, a show made by and for a non-demoscene audience, and it's a very enjoyable listen.

DJs... chiptune convention... but then again, Timbaland's interview is much worse. :D
I'm wondering, when a "popmusic in demos stolen" thread is coming up.
