CRACKERS: A Saga of Software Piracy

category: general [glöplog]

Hi there,

recently I stumbled upon these nice looking Books about the cracking scene history and am tempted to buy.

Does anybody have any experience with them? Are the information in there worthwhile to read or is it basically just a high-quality-print of old cracktros?

I backed both books: the first was born to be bounded to the Atari 16bit scene but eventually the research material became so massive they spanned the contents in two volumes, Amiga/bbs/consoles scene and sceners jumped aboard. I loved the eyecandy, printing quality and peculiar typography design. Should you pick only one volume i'd go for the second one, you'll find nice intervews to crackers and in-depth information boxes about protections and hardware.

I’ve always wondered why the Americans were happy calling them crackers.
