@party 2024, June 14-16, Boston MA USA

category: parties [glöplog]

It is our pleasure to invite you to @party 2024!

This is the 14th annual @party and we’re returning to Artisan’s Asylum at its new home in Allston, MA USA. There will be three full days of scheduled programming from Friday June 14th through Sunday June 16th.

The room will have a permanently installed sound system and bigscreen comparable in size to our party systems of the past and you’re welcome to consume meals and refreshments at your computer place. You can’t sleep here though, so please make arrangements for a hotel or roomshare if you don’t intend to stay awake for three days straight.

Stay tuned for further announcements on performers, seminars, and additional program items!

Thank you, and we hope to see you at @party 2024!

Registration is live! We have a pizza sponsorship for Saturday evening, and we're expanding the Real Wild compo to include anything people make in a shop at our host makerspace, Artisan's Asylum. If you're attending in person, we are maintaining a list of participating shops on the compo page if you are coming in from out of town and would like to borrow a tool for use on your entry.

I live in Maine and will try and make this party. However, I find this rule sufficiently objectionable to ràise it here for review:
Quote:
The democrew reserve the right to disqualify entries with racist, pornographic, or ultraviolent content, although we will discuss this matter in detail with the individuals concerned before passing a verdict.

I would ask that you just reserve the right to disqualify racist, pornographic, ultraviolet content without any commitment to 'discusss the matter in detail'.

Ultraviolet...

TBF you definitely should disqualify entries with ultraviolet content, this is a major health risk. :D

On a more serious note, yeah, kinda agreeing with ig0r there because if an entry is let's say clearly racist, I couldn't image what good would come out of that discussion. There's a grey area though; people should always be able to learn from their mistakes.

Don't worry, if somebody submits a clearly racist prod the only discussion will be: "Are you going to walk out of here under your own volition or do we have to physically eject you?"

But yes, as kb_ says, the assumption from running this thing for 13 years and never seeing any of this that the only instances we expect to see will be borderline and are probably only included in a prod due to ignorance of the meaning of a specific phrase or image. Hopefully we can educate the attendee and they will remove whatever was an issue of their own volition after being informed of its meaning.

However ig0r, we do take matters of this nature very seriously, so we've updated the language:
Quote:
The democrew reserve the right to disqualify entries with racist, pornographic, or ultraviolent content. If we deem that this content may have been included due to ignorance of its meaning or significance we will discuss the matter with the individuals concerned before passing a final verdict.

Does this make you comfortable or would you like us to go further?

"The democrew reserve the right to disqualify entries."

Don't leave room for weirdo loopholes.
