Revision 2024 - We Are Many - March 29th to April 1st 2024

category: parties [glöplog]
Revision was AWESOME.
It was so nice seeing all of you again, some of which I didn't see for years IRL, and many hugs were given.

The only issue I had was with the food stands. I was kind of annoyed with the lack of comprehension of most of them. Being both vegan and lactose-intolerant (the first kind of being a result of the latter), it was pretty hard for me to navigate the whole food thing.
More than once the conversation would go like:

"I would like the vegan pizza please"
"Was?"
"Veganer pizza" (in my best, albeit still horrible German)
"Pepperoni?"
"Nein, vegan!"

The crepe and burger trucks were a bit better, but I'm fairly certain the burger truck put cheese on my first allegedly vegan burger, so I did have some... bodily issues afterwards which I will not go into detail about.

I'm glad I brought my own snacks to the party just in case.

All that being said, this is obviously not criticism for the orga teams, because the rest of the party was pretty fucking ace, and I enjoyed it immensely!
You all did an awesome job, and I was super happy that I visited again. Next time, I'm definitely back!

An immense and major thank you to the orga team! I love you all! <3

@Noctis
Peperoni (Note: Spelled with one p only) is German for chilli while Pepperoni (English) is salami (meet).

It was a blast! I met and talked to people from Italy, France, Switzerland, UK, Croatia, which I normally wouldn't meet in such numbers elsewhere.
So Revision is something truly special for its sheer size. There are some conceptual problems, which make it not universally enjoyable - the noise level of too many compos, jingles and stomp music vastly overstaying their welcome the biggest one. Atmosphere suffers a bit from overorganization and size, but that's probably the fate of the biggest party being held in Germany... so we immediately come to the positives: certainly works like a clockwork! Good burgers and waffles! And now to the best of them all: The default Karlsberg (number one from the list) goes in so well that you can always have another one, always.

And telling us he had the same bug, like "Wow, have you heard ?! Incredible !" then we started to brainseek together and arrived to "It's "T'en va pas" from Elsa" VS "No, it's the one with Glen Medeiros, Roman d'amitié"
Finalily i've just checked now and... It's Elsa - t'en va pas, the intro https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewNHhcUcNWw

So, it wasn't an auditive hallucination hahaha...

Well... I had to go to the Revision once in my life to learn that Elsa would finish sampled in a german 2000's tune hahahaha... Life is really full of strange surprises...

I felt like everything was emotionally charged. Almost everyone had lost someone. Some had been hit particularly hard. The pain was there, but there was still this drive to carry on. It was a great party with awesome releases and with a lot of fresh people interested in demoscene.

I will always remember this Revision because I danced alongside legends with tears in my eyes.

That sounds sad, but in the end it was healing and hope and therefore good. Thank you Revision Team.

Yeah, the party was awesome! Got to hug with Jogeir, finally, after many years of being online friends since the 90s. <3

Lotsa hugs and talk with people! Everyone friendly good-hearted. Ace!

Also cool to have 3 modules of mine played in Oldschool Compo and Wild Compo. Also very cool to have my "Dreams of a Robot" Track played during the Paintover Compo as background music.

Great that no one had judged me there (me bing a shy introvert) etc, I now understand why the demoscene and the parties are called the "real family" or "2nd family" :) )

Looking very much forward to the next Revision <3 :)

This was an emotional ride.
I almost did not show up and I did not get into revision mood until somewhen wednesday´ish.

The last 12 months have been rough for me.
Acryd was part of my chosen close family for almost 30 years, we´re from the same town, we share the same friends.
I wrote and held the farewell speech at his funeral. I was in his appartment, sorting his stuff and helped selling some things like his Amiga 4000 (thanks again
Franky for taking care of it).
That broke me.
It broke me many times.

After all that I buried my grief with work, working at countless Festivals and Open Airs at the Weekends - while being in the Office during the week.
No free time - no emotions I have to deal with. For months.
In October, when the outdoor season ended and the world turned slower, I fell (surprise) into a depressive episode, which grew to a major depression, which then led to a general anxiety disorder…with the full range from panic attacks (which im a professional to deal with -) but psychotic and dissociative episodes where new to me. And I can’t recommend.
I just crawled out of that valley in February…so iam back on track again.
Even when the track is not the same anymore.
And iam not the same person anymore.

Whatever…So I was scared going to Revision, because I was afraid that the grief or any other emotional situation may kick me back into that valley.
Especially because we just went to MBBs „Fun“eral a few weeks ago.
Why am I call it that way?
Because from my pov that was a funeral we all could wish for.
There was Love, Grief but there was way more laughter.
So many stories have been shared, the kids ran around and chased scoup and they had the chance to laugh too.
And not to mention the awesome soundtrack which was played….a playlist that consisted of demoscene tracks and Deichkinds „Leider Geil“.
But it didnt kick me back into that valley.

For me, this Revision was a healing experience.
We had a shrine, with a Beanie and Acryds Glasses.
With his „Trophy of awesomeness“ in it and a photograph with him laying on his couch, after a rough party night Tomek, he and I had…
I was concerned that the Beam or anyone else may find this shrine inappropriate or childish, but again I was wrong and underestimated my friends:
KB said „this is is a very nice idea, place him right beside the GrandMA where he belongs“.
Styx made an Orga badge.
Steltek was carrying him around.

Acryd was with us the whole party, overseeing everything from the Beam, he was at the table yesterday while we had dinner and he joined us in the aftermath round.
For the new organizers who didn’t know Acryd or MBB, it must’ve been strange.
All the Senior-Orgas in Grief and emotional, talking about death on every corner.

Anyway…thank you guys for being patient with us.
For me I can say thank you all for this journey.

Thanks for all the hugs, the smiles, the shoulder paddings and so on.
I’m not a spiritual person…at least I wasn’t until now…but I think that
Acryd, Mbb and Mog all agree that we together did an awesome job here again.

And sorry that i had again no time for along chats, i know some people wanted to talk to me longer...really sorry.
At Revision iam always on duty and on the run when iam at the venue and have things on the to-do list you dont know.
At smaller parties iam a completely different and chill person...

Love and hugs to ya´ll.

Great party as always. So many people to talk to, so many that I have missed. So many faces I haven't met before as well (hi SoDa7, inversephase, Steffest!). The sheer quality of the tracked music compo was astonishing. Seeing TrackMeister in action for the first time at the party was awesome as well.
One small gripe with the streaming music compo - I think kb mentioned in the past that all music compos were LUFS-normalized at Revision. For this year, I made sure to prepare all the TrackMeister settings with LUFS normalization, so the tracked music compo was fine. But in the streamed music compo, I noticed that several tracks were considerably more quiet than others. I specifically didn't master my track too loudly because I remembered that the compos should be LUFS-normalized, but even on the stream capture on YouTube it doesn't sound to me like this was the case. Can anyone confirm?

- Unfortunately, the worst stand was the pizza stand. 5 Euros for such bad quality was just not acceptable.

Word.

We really miss that Italian pizza truck/bus which revision had a couple of years ago. They served delicious round pizza...

And also agreeing that the burger stand just had been "average"...

Everything else: What a blast! Thanks for organizing the party!

was fun! great to see old friends again and meet a few new folks. sadly spent half the party busy with orga work and most mornings recovering from it in the hotel, didn't get to chat in person with folks as much as i was hoping for but still 10/10 best demoparty. thank you everyone who helped organize and submitted entries / showed up and helped make it a fun event :)

Another music compo thing. During the exe music compo I (and several other people) noticed some pops and clicks in some tracks. I believe that e!ghtbm's track had quite a few them, and also some later tracks (such as the LNX track if I'm not mistaken). Rendering the tracks locally here doesn't reveal any artifacts, so I wonder where they came from. I found that some of the rendered 32-bit float WAVs exceed the nominal +/-1 range. Could it be related?
Revision was awesome.

Testing positive for covid a few days after Revision is not so awesome :(

If you are feeling unwell after Revision i strongly suggest getting a test.

I actually went up to the beam team after the third or so track with clicks in it, and they assure me it was in the music....

@docd - keep up mate, was pleasure to meet you even briefly.

As for the party - good stuff, as usual. I still plan to bitch about swapping last compo block on Sunday with concert to enjoy both. At this moment you have two awesome guys doing their best to engage crowd, couple of dancers, and grupties just waiting for this to be over and start with demo compos.

I assume not the best situation for all.

Imagine demo compo starting at 20.00 sharp, finished by 23, then concert, one stubi for the road and good night sleep before voting. Maybe one year :)

The concerts are also for the beamteam to get some food and take a piss and such. There is a reason they’re there.

I tested yesterday morning and it came back negative, but I did get some sort of cold / "con crud."

I'll likely run a confirmation test again sometime today.
uncle-x: Get well soon!

That might have been a reason years ago but turns out, nowadays we are enough people to take shifts and take breaks pretty much whenever we want, yay :)

But for example, during the concerts there's a lot of prep going on for the last compo block. For example we do a last test round for all PC entries (turns out, even connecting the compo machine to the beam setup in contrast to the simple monitor/headphones combo at the compo orga's place does change things a bit), and more often than not we're still waiting for recordings for the oldschool/amiga compos to be finished - those are a lot of work.

So yeah, the concerts do serve as a buffer to make the nights' last compo blocks run more smoothly, but not because we're lazy :)

---

As for the music compo hiccups, everything I can say now is: Sorry. Your complaints are duly noted, and we're going to address them and add a couple of safeguards and processes so that doesn't happen again.
