scene.org awards 2006

category: general [glöplog]
teel: as always, there is a story behind stuff. As some may know, the tables and chairs are rented from a dutch company (holland), as there is no table/chair rental company in germany that would have enough tables/chairs for Breakpoint. Due to the distance, the transporting costs are quite high. The number of tables+chairs we had this year exactly filled the oversize truck used for transportation. Not a single more chair would have fit in.

...and that's why we had to put up a few benches (those are from a local company) in front of the bigscreen.

Yeah, this was a pretty boring story. :)

the good part with those benches was that people couldnt sit there all days and take up space when compos started. so you where often to get a place to sit, even if you dropped in late, wich was nice :)

only negative part about watching the compos was that there was too much light coming in while sitting in the back (above the area)

I am in favor of the post-awards demoshow, showing ALL the entries... it will cut down on the time of the show, and leave it so that those of us who want to see the entries on the bigscreen or on demoscene.tv or the gathering or whatever can do such.

It should also cut down on repeats - Aether 3 times was a bit much. I'd rather have seen some of the other demos that were nominated and THEN Aether.
In regards to the prizegiving, perhaps it would have been nice to see/hear top 3 of any compo on the big screen again?
It would take a shitload of time, and the buses to the airports were leaving right after the ceremony.

I liked the VIP idea, but the idea is only executable when you have people who manage to speak infront of an audience. slummy, i.e, did a very good job, but some others were just to nervous.

There's no real reason to be nervous in front of the BP crowd. Mind you, that doens't help matters when the lights are on you, but on the other hand, you generally can't see very far out into the audience anyway (:

I'd just suggest trying to get a practice session for the presenters. Scamp and co. are very helpful in arranging this sort of thing... just let 'em know, I'm sure you can work something out without major issues.

Oh and i think combining effects and graphics awards is a no go. Or then we would need a new category for best coding. Unlike mfx, some groups have real graphicians instead of coders who also make textures ;)
Oh, what do the scene.org awards care what other groups than mfx do? :)))

netpoet looked like a lions tamer in his outfit, but that's fitting for a guy having to tame and entertain sceners.
Good host, yeah :)

No there isn't... that is, if you don't mind breaking the formality of the event. But then who needs hosts in suits if it's informal?

wayfinder your comment just did not make any sense. How is scene.org tweaking things so mfx (or kewlers) win. Except them actually releasing. And releasing great stuff year after year?

I wasn't that fancy dressed. But I was so jealous of minas' great outfit.

oxbow, demoscene.tv filmed it, so I'm sure it's possible to get a video of it somewhere/sometime.
