MOTHER FUCKING BRILLIANT.
by far the best demo in years. simply mindblowing atmosphere and insane amount of content. ultimate respect for visualice & co.
all of the above
i love you.
Good shit indeed.
Well... Don't know what to say. A demo I've been waiting for a long long time. Massive on big screen, almost too daunting to watch alone at home. Very rarely emotions nor atmosphere is pushed to this level in demo format.
long, surreal, beatiful. great work.
I really would've loved this, had it been devoid of all the technical glitches (linear filtering, near plane clipping, blending artifacts) :(
Many many very powerful parts and I expect to like this the more I watch it, but on the first watch at home, some parts were WAY too garish and ugly. (Like that CGA-looking part somewhere in the middle.)
An awesome demo, but definitely NOT "the best in years". At least not on the first watch.

Nearest point filtering, i mean. As seen on screenshot.
Doesn't run on my winXP 64 Pro... ..\_start.cpp(2828): directx error 8876017c (380)
one good effect (mfx-like particles in blue gamma).
demo looks as Visualise try to copy mfx & kewlers style and place it into sci-fi world.
I don't know why "aether" and other mfx prods looks good, and in same time this prod doesnt.
In fact, Mfx do same, but more, more better.
maybe pig but 14 mb.

IMHO the music was something like "Waiting for Cousteau goes Industrial" (respects to ps anyway) but the demo itself had something that made me keep watching and eventually liking it. I wish the credits part effect had been longer.
The direction is great, some effects are amazingly neat, but I'd like to some more things this year before proclaiming this one as "best prod in eons" ;)

Quite simply the demo of the year
..\_start.cpp(2828): directx error 8876017c (380) here too, windows xp sp2, AMD Athlon 64, geforce 6600 gt
it consumes an insane amount of vram, turn the multisampling down if you get the directx error
Fucking awesome.
very nice!
Nice work, but yeah, not even close to being the best in years. Moody visuals, and i loved the watery(?) scene. But, i have to be honest not my cup of tea and struggling to give it a thumb.
Maybe it needs the big screen atmosphere.
Maybe it needs the big screen atmosphere.
Probably I such silly, but I do not see anything good in this work. " We wish to become abrupt conceptual and alternative ". But it has not made impression upon me, not дотерпел up to the end of a demo, has pressed esc

Extraordinary FR style! Creepy! Some scenes feels like watching alien movies. Nice sound fx but I like a demotune more than only soundfx in a demo. Respect for making this demo! When demo is finished (I used 1028 x 768 verion of demo) my windows is totally bugged with like 16 colours left ? Lowres screen. I will reboot now ;) Hope to see FR-50 at bp07 (which will hopefully has the same impact or more as FR-25 :)
Cheers!
Cheers!
give me a break. Where's that massive amount of content? Tons of artifacts and fast made scenes? The same old code like in the past 10 demos? The same textures with the same generated cloud like patterns with fonts on?
No! The times when you put dozens of blending planes and some distorted primitives must end at once. The MFX demos (ie "Deities") had some kind of screenplay. Moreover they were simply coded by hand in some parts which explains some distortions. This one is just an ordinary "put everything" together before compo demo. People, try to understand that this is not a best way to create. Whatever. You can start to hate me from this moment.

Oh yes - the moment with the sphere crushing the plates is a good one. Only that.
TO ANYONE WHO GETS THE DIRECTX ERROR: Turn multisampling down (2x or none). This demo needs lots of VRAM. Working on a fix...
uuuhh.. first i thaught it was just art, but then i watched it again on a lower resolution and without multisampling and realized.. "hey, that constant glitching sound weren't supposed to be there after all!?", and the demo played back much smoother and faster. I suppose there is a bug somewhere, so i'll watch it again some times before making up my mind
Turning off multisampling did work! Great stuff.
insane amount of work.
left me breathless :)
oh man!!!! that's totally madness!!! one of the best demos I've ever seen of its kind! I loved it. Deserves a CDC for sure! :)
Thumb up mainly for the immense amount of design that has gone into it. There were some beautiful scenes but for me I found most of it very odd. Not disturbing, just strange. I don't really know if I like it but I respect it.
turning off multisampling seems to do the trick here as well. i didn't get any dx-error but the demo played back very slowly (not as in low fps, but as in timestretch) with constant annoying clicking sounds when multisampling was enabled. watched it again in now in what i suppose was a correct playback. it looks and feels good!
Piggy coz' i don't want to thumb it down
i don't feel anything watching this
the music ? what music ?
The design what design
the only thing textures are cool ...

Well done and probably the best demo by farbrausch of late.
Duckers, I believe turning of Vsync is a solution for you.
large amount of content and great visuals :)
hmm... really not my cup of tee. so piggy, but big respect to visualice! good job anyway
Probably this as close to Visu's dreams and vision as it gets, which is touching, scary and impressive at the same time.
Great work, with some technical rough edge (like Gargaj noted) that doesn't really degrade the viewing experience.

I hope it will run well on my laptop.
where is the superb amount of content and work ?
i don't see anything.
It looks very ugly. I didn't get it at all and i think mfx demos are on incredible higher level than this one. I saw better "minimal" demos than this. ;)
and Music could be better !

Video version is on the way, will take an hour or so.
\ :) /
Watching it, one word only stayed there, glued in front of my eyes, in garish neon lights, not blinking, just glowing, almost blinding me: ALCOHOL.
really nice analog feel in some of the scenes! next task: make it interactive :)
Very good visuals, didn't fancy the soundtrack much.
ok one more thing... the worst part of the demo is the metalball crushing the plates!
!!! and fix it ;)
thats just kick ass.. In the beginning I was a bit put off by the sharp edges and envmappish uv coords, but the style kind of grew throughout and in the end I thought this was how it had to look. Is this the innard of some cyborgs brain or what? I have to watch it again.. The scene that struck me as the most beautiful is the underwater one (or in womb?) with the particles and bubbles.. just great.
Sick in an impressive way
Great one, was still nice on my crappy laptop but I want that video. Loved the most this water part with bubbles and the ball on the plate.
the metallic scenes kinda made me think of Giger.. sadly not every scene is equally 'strong'.. but .this .is .very .good
am i the only guy to find it boring? i couldn't see anything that deserves 8 CDCs.
I refuse to take this collection of vaguely ambitious, yet messy and overly pretentious scenes seriously. :)
No go...
Oh well... this must be the *most boring* demo in years (after chimera/halcyon, obviously).
Music is non-existent; visualice still fails to do proper shadow map filtering.
A piggy.

hope it won't get overhyped, but this is definitely good stuff. it would be great to see more 'collected' visualize demos again

it teh beauty but since i was in party mood I waited something called as music :(
But very very very good design anyway

I'd like a video, you made kkapture, I'm sure you will, but I *do* wanna watch this one.
argh missed ryg's comment. anyway, i can't really say i liked the style, but thumbs for effort
Autothumbup for a controversial visualice/FR release.
I am going to watch it once an avi is out, so I does not get spoiled by technical issues.
video (xvid+mp3 640x480 60fps)
after watching this i had a feeling of 'wtf'...
so, what drugs are u on...and can i get some?
Coz i totally missed the theme/storyline, if there was any... :)

Because a so nice tune deserves much better from your inspiration.
damn beautifull - very moody and special. one of the best things I've ever seen.
lovely textures and layer-handling :-)
lovely textures and layer-handling :-)
so what hardware does it take to run this with multisample? not a gf7600 i found out
I got "can't create screen" error when I try to run fullscreen, then the DX error in windowed mode. I tried decreasing multisampling, but no luck. :(
Downloading video now.

Ok, first off, I'll admit that I don't like ambient demos. I'm one of the few that though the fulcrum sucked back in 1998... I'll go straight ahead:
The music in this one really didn't work for me, the mood too me means just boring. I can't believe how someone actually sat through this thing at the party and at the same time were amazed(!?) and then voted for it. I haven't checked the competition out though..
The code and all work to put it together is massive and impressive in a way, no-one can deny that. But farbrausch have done so much better stuff in the past, like the obvious popular demo and for instance theta which I thought was brilliant.
In most part of the demo I couldn't understand what I was watching, for some this might be a good thing, but for me it certainly isn't. Call it art if you'd like to but I didn't get it. The last scene with the credits was the nicest one if you ask it, and second to that I liked the spline thing with the circle in the beginning.
I think a thumb up means instant recommendation to a friend, but I can't think of anyone that I might recommend this to, so no thumb for you. Sorry, you made a good effort.

ok, my mistake, you got a thumb.
Largest and most threatening demo released in a very very long time!
2007 a demo odyssey ?
kudos to visualice for restlessly refining his art, this is his ultimate masterpiece so far.

just about saved from being horrible by a couple of flashes of almost greatness.
lets forget the "technical" issues - the same nasty alphablended white lowres-textured polygonal stuff sticking around that has blighted visualice's stuff for ages, ugly polygonal objects where they really don't fit (and no postfx to help smooth it out), bad textures, bad uv mapping, layers that dont really look good and a whole raft of other problems. and lets ignore the sound (which i pretty much did anyway - it does nothing for me).
my problem with it is on the artistic side. to me it feels old and stale - like a series of images taken from a bunch of movies and glued together with added pretentiousness. sorry, it gave me nothing.
as i said tho, saved by a couple of parts which did provide some strong imagary.

Very abstrakt with a background music that's seems like 2001 space oddesy - very beautiful - in a dark foreboding sort of way. I dug it!
I do love ambient. But in this case the imagery (wich is awesome) would need a much more powerful soundtrack (at places it cries for it, really) cause this was on the brink of boredom, sorry...
a mixture of scenes, some cool, some crap, that just absolutely doesn't work as a whole.
music only for this time guys :<
what bonzaj said. I only liked one scene, and wasn't the one with the ball crushing the plane.
This.Fucking.Rules! Awesome soundscape. Could be even more scarier though. Great job guys, i like!
there were some moments of sheer beauty, while some scenes were nearly ugly - like the crushing-ball part and some others. the music was very cool and athmospheric.
sure there's been lot of work & thought behind this, yet i still can't understand the enthusiasm shown here. when it comes to more avantgarde demos, this one can't reach some of the satori masterpieces _by far_ - simply because it's not on-point enough.

also, it might be just me, but it seems like something negative has happened with visualice's choice of colors since he joined farbrausch. i liked his haujobb-palettes MUCH more.
odi et amo
for the love of god, this is simply breathtaking.
Too boring to make my permanent demo collection, but was ok to watch once. Looked good and had a good atmosphere.
It's pretty much a slow version of D (Stands For) which is a MUCH better demo in my opinion, with more to see and hear.

stop...i dont like it..it is not a real nice prod. others by FR were better. not every FR release is a good one. is not it a name voting?
no comments...
Platforms, broken by the ball, are very nice.
Some scenes reminds me second generation of Doomsday's demos.
The sound design might be more bold, more cinematographic and sfx-like. Why don't to send a music away at all?.. Anyway, I like this trend in demo soundtracks.

long time no visualice demo
so it's simply nice to see one again

Pure love.
this shit! not demo!
OK, after I read some comments, viewed the video version, and took the time to think about it, I decide to add a deserved thumb up, with some comments:
- I do realize that it's "one more step" in graphical enhacement, that follows the "shader-way-of-doing" (like lots of prods these years), and use visualice talent for colour/tint calibration at his best, always with a painter point of view, and maybe also "lighting engineering" . (If you can't understand that, the demo has effectiveley no interest.) So this is all a work on calibration details, just to make it beautiful, and also on the way the objects move. Globally, it's just translating and shading objects, but it gives some interesting direction. (an object make the ball disappear just as your eye come on it, keeping a static circular object in the center,...that is a clever direction.) . So , clear thumb up for that.
The codework look a bit hidden behind, and may be seen as the a classic-shader codework, but It can't be a reproach at all. Each demo has to focus something. The main difficulty to make a graphical work like that is to fire the coders out the room, finnaly, because they simply can't have nothing to do at this level.
the bad side, to my mind: this is a complete abstract-shaped demo, unlike some other FR demos like candytron, that were describing procedurally real things, like women or voices.
Here, everything is abstract, and it is so easy to do bizarre shapes, and give no clear sense to what you show. So to my mind, this is a *very* good demo, but certainly not the best for years.
... Hey, by the way people, the "Coup De Coeur" thing is about to point out unknown prods and give them more attention when it's need, and in no case it stands as a "superthumb". Obviously, this prod may not be a good CDC candidate as it will reach top one everywhere and everyone will talk about it for years,... it will be annoying as hell.

Not bad.. But after some minutes it is very boring. I was waiting for the highlight after a long introtime... but .... mhh...
special, but overrated. a sick shit production. at least interesting. so o.k.
did somebody hack the "coup de coeurs"?
if an unknown crew would have done something like this, everybody would have given a thumb down.

Amazing atmosphere and music.
Well done.

Too boring and uninteresting for my tastes, like 95% of fr demos.
Hmm... very phat visuals and ideas... therefore you get my thumb... but the ambient soundscape makes it very very boring to watch...
Very nice (enough for a thumb up), but still prefer some of the other latest work from visualice tho... I know I won't be coming back to this one as much (if at all) as I'd do with other uhmm... "similar" demos.
And I don't get all this hype after all the flaming towards "artsy" prods. Pouet sure is weird sometimes...

Fantastic. Awesome experience on bigscreen.
Gotta love the Visualice style!
What seppjo said is very true. I expected something better. Some parts shine, but overall this is a piggie for me.
gets more and more overrated. fr groupies from outer space. please, delete that 14x "coup de coeur". is not in relation with the production itself.
fx: only interesting and also boring
music: what music?

Some quite suggestive moments starting from the eye part. On the party's bigscreen and sound system for sure the immersivity of the demo reached an optimal level.
I particularly enjoyed the scenes with all the massive structures.

fuckings to all lamers
@uns3en_:
what is the meaning of lamer?
what is the meaning of lamer?
BSOD-ed on me, so I watched the video.
Truck just said on irc that this is the kind of demo which you either get or you don't. Well, I think I get the demo (loved the atmosphere and I have the feeling that this demo will become even better when you've watched it more often).
However, I don't "get" the coup-de-coeur mass hysteria. Why does this demo have 14 cdc's while for example deitis by mfx has only one? That ain't fair :-)

dudes who are complaining, especially seppjo, how about getting a clue what a "personal coup de coeur" in contrary to the pouet startpage coup de coeur, is about?!
lamer who doesnt understand anything about good demos :)
dipswitch: true, but there is such a thing as a "personal coup-de-cour and such a thing as a "personal" opinion that the cdc flood here is overrated :-)
sparcus, don't worry, i got _your_ point, in fact i wrote this before your post popped up. my rant was rather directed at seppjo who wants to "delete" the pcdc's.
visuals are much better than the last demos... but i don't like the music and in all it's a bit boring... so it's ok for me ;)
@diswitch:
thought it was a pouet hack. couldn't beleive it.
thought it was a pouet hack. couldn't beleive it.
words "cool, "rulez" are not applicable for describing this demo. This is just alternative universe in our monitors, made by twisted-alien-minds. Most impressive prod for me for a long period.
Looks like we have our new Chimera for 2007. What's with the CDC overdosage? Get a grip already.
Very nice moments in this one, unfortunately it's also extremely overrated by the audience. Yes, it's got a few great scenes. Yes, it has a lot of content. But no, it's not the best demo ever. Plenty of disjointed moment and scenes that no amount of goatee and turtleneck will make up for.
Maybe it'll grow on me if I watch it a bit more, but I'm not really sure. It will probably make for a good beanbag + beer session.

crap
very ethereal style which makes it stand out from most other demos. but it doesn't "read" well. too messy. i guess the closest comparison on the scene would be MFX's stuff (such as Golem, Aether) which is just as abstract yet reads perfectly and is a lot more "solid", even considering their abstract themes.
Nice demo but I sense a lot of people here are being swept along by group hysteria.

hmm, not my cup of tea, too boring for me, dont get the feeling out of the visuals, overall nice optical invasion.
First I thought it was buggy on my GF 6600 GT but then I read Smash's comments and realized it was the actual demo...
Waiting for a final with more polished work and better design for a thumb up.

seppjo, are you really so retarded that you cannot understand that there are people with different taste than yours?
we need anti-cdc's too.
massive
i like the mood of the demo ... i liked some effects but i couldnt figure out the concept behind. ergo too many scene changes and effects that dont fit together. its ok but i just expected more
great stuff, gotta watch again some day with a more receptive mind
Inspiring. Like many great movies, I feel I'll watch this once and not again but that once was a journey for me. Sure a few of the alpha layers were unnecessary and even ugly but I dont care: there is grace and power here. If the next one had a point, a direction, a statement beyond the artistic style it would be the only real improvement you could make (but IMO a necessary one).
Thankyou for that demo. It was very special.
oh yeah and Im not a groupie.

You only get a piggy from me. Some parts are just fucking ugly - some are amazing. it seems very unpolished to me.
hyper hyper.

I think this could benefit from less insane amount of content :) Nice moments in it though, only too far apart.
i like this one very much :)
As has already been said, this suffers from some artifacts (ugly textures, low poly models), but some scenes are just amazing, so definitely a thumb up from me.
whoa.
ps: about that "putting everything together before compo". I don't want to make a debate here on someone's prod page, but let me get it straight. I realize that some of you think that demoscene is amateurish, and you're right. But it's mostly because you want to stay in this sauce. It's easier to not watch productions from other sources than demoscene because they're simply better. What worries me is that this production is plain ugly, does have nothing in similar with art and has a lot of artifacts which can be easly to spot. The problem is that some people that have built their respect in the past are now using the same old effects. Like smash has already said the whole production is old and stale, but some FR grouppies are still active. It's just sad that people who were once building this society with fresh ideas are now trying to keep it in the form it used to be back in 1999-2002 (the infamous "liquid... wen?" demo). Demosceners! The world is turning around and believe me that sometimes it is good to change sth. And there are groups and productions that bring sth new. But not this prod. Quit with the CDC and best demo of the year/ever thing. Check some other communities and see that we need to put a "little" more effort, if we don't want to get rotten and forgotten.
I believe Farbrausch can do better than this.
A second thumb down from me <img>http://www.pouet.net/gfx/sucks.gif</img>

boring, ugly, sound sucks. sorry you can do better.
Maybe FR should release an updated werkzeug which can set new standarts than uh Bonzaj?
Or even better its time Plastic releases a new demo which sets such high standarts the rest has to follow :)
Pioneers in demo making, the followers, the copy-cats, the oldskoolers who release something from time to time.. It has always been like this .. in anyway cherish eachother creativity we cant be all as good as someone else and come with new stuff all the time.. simple demoscene history lesson 1987-2007 in my case :D Cheers!

freaking excellent
Bonzaj is probably just angry that a demo without ripped graphics can still be good and popular.
Not everybody has the same taste, you know?

not my taste but..

and they are darker, deeper, dirtier than _ever_ before..
and they are darker, deeper, dirtier than _ever_ before..
I agree with bonzaj on some points though. People should watch other communities and get some fresh inspiration and there could be some better stuff in here.. Shadows, bumpmaps... maybe even some general technique to make the objects disappear where they aim to cut each other would be nice.. some kind of "use the z-buffer to make stuff close each other transparent" which I have seen demonstrated on billboard explosions.. Not sure if there were any coders at hand to help out with such features here though..
bonzaj: omfg not every demo can be a computerized version of grandmothers kitsch collection with HDR lightprobes.
I have to admit that the demo feels a bit rough coding wise. I am not sure all the jerks in the video are intentional, i find them quite irritating.
Just to be annoying, I also made this my cdc.

Btw: FIX pretty PLEASE!
Maybe what brother bonzaj means to say is that farbrausch became nothing but a boring bunch of rentiers ?
Still, the portuguese scener have all my sympathy.

also got the start.cpp error :( radeon 9600 here.
huge atmosphere and vibe. massive thumb.
Too bad that certain unmentioned ill-will sceners can never achieve anything like this.
didn't work here.. have to check the vid i guess..
well watched the vid and i like it. :) nice work!
This is the most amazing demo I have ever seen. I have no words.
Nice gfx, nice atmos.. I would like to see more of these.. BUT.. The music (too much credit already) was completely dull. Therefore a piggie tending towards sucking.
For the chronicles: I was able to run this by disabling multisampling AND by choosing 4:3 aspect ratio (16:10, wich is the right one for my sys, didn't work...).
Just for curiosity, where the insane amount of vram is used?

@visualice:
As a long term silent fan, I am absolutely stunned about this production. It not only shows an incredible talent (which by itself is a nice thing) but real artistic development (which I feel is very rare in the demo scene). I am really happy that you are still active and contributing. And at the same moment, I am somehow affraid that you at some point draw the conclusion that demo scene and art do not fit together and leave us, just like statix did.
About the production:
pro:
- Stunning soundtrack and atmosphere. I was not second "bored". I like demos I can think about, before watching them again. And again. I really doubt that this could be a "party production", because it looks like someone has put some thought into the theme before starting to build it.
contra:
- Some low poly objects disturb the overall quality
- Some minor sync problems (two or more frames off the tune)
- Some of the organic objects didn't look good enough.
@bonzaj:
Together with visualice you are one of my favorite scene artists and I am anxiously waiting of a new production for you for the last few years. I clearly remember our discussions at evoke about editing and art. So I can not understand your comments on this production. I know there are glitches and there aren't any of those cool new asd-like shaders and stuff. But I love the scene for it's diversity and tolerance. If we were at film business I would never dare to release any of my own productions, because I only can use Mad's old directx 7 engine. And would just laugh at me, what I use such outdated technology.
But here everybody can do his stuff with the technology he decides to use. Some use c64, some werkkzeug, some complex pixel shader pipelines. And most us have enough understanding to estimate what can be done with the used technology. For me watching this demo was just like watching Simpsons. I forgot about its render technology. I just saw a story. And for me this story was breathtaking trip.

'DOH!'
pixtur, thanks for speaking out of my heart with your comment, especially concerning visualice AND bonzaj. i hope too that _both_ protagonists will enlight us with stunning productions for the next years, each in his own way. the artistic _diversity_ of the scene is one of the most important keywords one can say on this debate.
Yuck! Didn't get anything. Someone please make a Visualice Demo Cheat Sheet. I think thec wishes one as well.
pixtur: hehe, true!
if you are going to make a demo in this pace you will have to have perfect visuals without tearing or aliasing. mostly this was acctually done, but in some scene a really aliased sphere destroyed everything.
therefor it sucks.
therefor it sucks.
eye^PaC: stop that retarded shit on all Visualice prods already...
Dunno if it fits the scene standards but I enjyed it. :thumb: Sorry, haven't read the other comments yet.
Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video.
keops, too late. :) But why don't you just click at "No" if you consider the demo really self-explaining?
what the hell is a cheat sheet anyway.
An atmosphere that can only be created by Visualice.
Same stuff seen dozens of times, only with slower pace and some really ugly parts (not to mention that I hate ambiental music). I want my Liquid...Wen back!
I feel pity for the cynics, for their realm of experience is tragically limited.

After the compo, I had a discussion with a friend, who thought the demo looked too slick and "plastic". And I do understand his point of view. I myself often find certain types of "dark" demos to be hindered by the unintendedly polished and obviously computer generated modern demo look.
However, this doesn't apply here. 828's darkness is a whole other type of darkness.
In the context of art, there is a set of obvious immediate connotations with the word "dark". Gloomy, gritty, desperate, hopeless, depressing. This is somewhat unfortunate, since there are more shades of dark than that. This is most evident in dark ambient music, where dark tones are utilized to convey a rather broad spectrum of atmospheres. From ritualistic ambient concerning the spirits of the earth to cosmic sound constructions dealing with visions of the immeasurable unknown, darkness is used to evoke visions of forces that are vast, remorseless and immensely dwarfing to us, but not necessarily malevolent.
To me, 828 is an exceptionally fine example of space mysticism, a visual representation of incomprehensible forces and protocols at work beyond our range of vision, both spatially and dimensionally. Harsh burnthrough contrasts, noise layers, smudgy blurs - tools that are well tested and fine wherever grittiness is desired - would only have cheapened the experience here.
Or maybe I've got it all wrong. I have the freedom to do that. That's the beauty of art.
What I'm certainly 100% right about, though, is that this thing is fucking heavy.

again, another surperb prod i ever seen from fr altho there are guys who commeted alot above against it. sure, they are tired of precombusions in and out of parties, maybe time to manipulate some prods conviencable themselves:) sure, they will.
hm.. the soundtrack is perfect but the visuals.. most of the time i couldnt tell what was going on, which in a way is interesting. but atleast the scenes didnt have that cheap feel like some recent fr intros
i dont like the soundrack, some of the visuals are ok, others not. technically its good. so....
amazing soundtrack and crappy on the technical side.
cant thumb it down coz of the sound
cant thumb it down coz of the sound
i bet in making of this demo they smoked alot of fjolletobak!
I think I didn't get it... or it's just not the style of demo I like...
wow
thanks for the experience
good work!
thanks for the experience
good work!
I normaly doesn't like ambient demos, but this was really beautiful. Total WOW-element reached.
not working in vista. get a black screen after load bar and windows reports that display driver has stopped responding and needs to be reset. tried with all the settings. running with 7600gs and latest 64bit nvidia drivers (yes i realize its my own fault for running vista but im too lazy to reboot into xp :P)
ok tracked down the problem now. it works when you set the ratio to 4:3 but chaning it to 16:10 or anything different results in it not working. weird bug indeed...
different!
I get a system memory dump, No sweat I'll just wait for the final version, Has this been tested on Gforce FX series?
Well, new demos in February certainly get some attention !
May I say that I am with the people who didn't like the demo. I actually didn't like it at all. First of all it is completely derivative and it shows. Some mention the similarities to "Deities" (or other recent MFX/Kewlers demos), which is an excellent demo - true to form of ambience, with a killer soundtrack and beautiful visual effects. 828 has none of these qualities. There are things that we have seen before since the days of 'Liquid wen' (which I also didn't like much - Variform was ripped that year): Multiple of blended polygons rotating in phase with the odd 3D object textured by some perlin noise or something. No progression, no transition, no scope. Chimera (which was also compared to) AT LEAST had some progression and followed the 'less is more' in a manner I have never seen before or after that. Only black and red, yes, but you still wanted to see what will happen at the end. I don't want to see what happens at the end of 828 because I bet that it will be the first scene of the demo + some layers of low render-to-textured green distorted spikeballs on top; with the same loop of noise playing in the background.
Sorry for not liking this demo but this is my subjective opinion.

jobe's comment is 100% spot on with my own opinions on this prod. I can understand some people not liking this, but i for one love this unconditionally.. maybe its the vastness and alienness of it all and the knowledge of how much time and effort was put into this (the first time i saw a version of this demo was in july 2006 already)
One thing i'm very surprised are the myriad comments comparing this to some of our (mfx's) works. I fail to see any true connection (or ripping/copying as some people insinuate) even though this and some of our demos (deities, aether, golem) share some of the same themes.

oh and another thing. I find rather depressing the attack on Bonzaj, who is the last person ever to get bitter from someone elses success...
Didn't need sleeping pills after watching this one.
It's probably like watching children's paintings vs. abstract art: You have to be a conaisseur to appreciate and acknowledge what sets the abstract painter apart from the playful child.
Ánd I prefer the plauful child, it seems...
I couldn't help but thinking: "What Bitarts film festival are Farbrausch planning to win some money at with this one?", hehe.
And, am I the only one who thought "Hey, Sony/Ericcson" when that green-ish ball appeared at the beginning? ;)

as a dark ambient demo, it's a good piece. really consistent in some places and not so consistent in others, but that's nothing new. i wasn't bored by it, but it walks on the balancing line between "dull" and "prefectly syncroniced. sometimes it has it's foot on one side of the line, sometimes on the other, but never "full on" of either.
i really fail to see how this demo could have managed to get all of pouet in heated debate. it's not "boring crap" as some say, and it isn't "the best demo ever" either.

What exactly was that? No music at all ... almost no effects at all (the bubble-particle thing was nice, as was the sparks scene with the half-rings). I thing "pointless" describes it perfectly.
Also... what sort of misguided idiot records a video at 60 fps and wastes so much bandwidth for nothing?

P.S. btw I'm *not* "sorry" for not liking this, kiss my ass
quite nice demo :)
For the technical side, it looks like we were in the 2000, what doesn't help much. I'm sorry, some people are as sensitive to the concept of a demo as much as I am to the technical quallity.
For the content, as far as I can interact with this demo, I feel I allready saw this many times in the past - nothing new.
I can understand some people likes it.
But I don't follow the "insane amount of content" joke.
For me making the effort to release a demo is allways valuable however. So a piggy.

Watched it for second time (this time at home) and I must admit it's not total bullshit, like I felt it was during the compo.
And now I have very mixed feeling about this one.
I the other hand it has dark atmoshpere, some twisted and innovative ideas, good soundtrack and at some points it's very well directed.
But then there are reasons why I think I won't be watching it ever again. I think it's too long and doesn't feel like it's going anywhere. In other words it's boring. Couldn't care less if "boring" is a creative comment or not, but during this demo I felt both entertained and bored at the same time.
Doesn't really deserve a piggie, but both thumb up and thumb down.

This is absoluterly wonderful.
this is trip to weird world... very beautiful dark dream where nothing makes sense... some messages that you cannot see. i think some of my dreams looks like this sometimes, it doesnt make any sense... you approach something and it turns into something different, changes form... very good
Not great, but overall it was quite a nice trip...
Stunning! Great direction, scenes and atmosphere, it flows superbly, and the sound was top notch too (was that a bit of the sound track from hjb's art i heard?)
To me, this is what visualice's stuff should be like - great use of colour, composition and movement but without the usual camera crashing through objects etc.

I'm gonna get some flames up along my ass now, but I think I some references to FF7 in there.
...think I see...
gave me shivers.
and i dont get the talk about artifacts and glitches. ok its not perfectly designed but at least visu is not flying through polys anymore. :) and it is SO OBVIOUS that the nearest neighbor-filtering supposed to be there. he could have turned it off, its one click in wz3.

very, very, very good.
Gave me the Jeepers.
Excellent atmosphere, super visuals, different and I loved that. Big thumb!

unsi you got some really badly textured dreams then
i watch films that have glitches around and poor visual quality, read comics on some cheap paper and like to listen to some old albums that aren't clean in all frequencies i can hear.
but i nevertheless enjoy them a lot, and i can see why some can't.
828 is one of the best demos ever made.
but still, not as good as liquid wen.

i was just typing a long comment to this. but now i just want to say one word. boring!
occasionally it really reaches you.
but the glitches doesn't work in its favour.

My eyes liked it, my ears fell asleep. Overall it was a bit boring. Thumb up for Visualice anyway.
Navis: I agree with you also.. There are just more than one way to look at this demo and people should respect eachother oppinions.. Let everybody scene happy with eachother.. peace ! :)
With all due respect for the free expression of opinions, anyone who states someone is trying to keep the community back with their work is fair game for some amount of verbal retaliation.
It has some atmosphere and several scenes, it truly gets me in and quite unique demo than the other fr releases. I was expecting something different reading some of the comments, but I got something better. Though, I am not sure it desreves so many cdc but wtf?!
hmm, in less than 48hrs popularity: 2 % :)
I'll keep it short:
art is not what you see
art is not what you see
Beatuiful scenes. But it doesn't feel like a demo without music..
Some of the scenes were extremely beautiful, at least for a few seconds. But then there were other scenes that looked somewhat "let's put some 3d objects together and add a noise texture". But what kills this demo for me is that I utterly fail to see the concept. I only see random "dark" scenes put together that do not link well in my opinion.
This demo is far better than many things I voted as rulez. Still this demo did not work for me.

Great scenes.
But where's the MUSIC!?
But where's the MUSIC!?
Typical boring Visualize stuff, this time he seems to have collected all his experiments into some messy randomized crap. No musicians bothered to make a tune for this crap it seems like. This seems like a Haurausch prod.
this is good
Overrated in my eyes. Looks like a big patchwork of a pile of random scene. Lacks of design and concept. No thumb down because the soundtrack and some of these random scenes were quite nice.

Yeah, okay... I'll just let that one fly for now. Or wait, no... shut up.
Far too many scenes are completely devoid of any clear direction, which apparently make it very easy for some to intepret a chasm of deeper meaning. If this was what Timo was aiming for, kudos to him. But people really ought to stop looking down their noses at whatever other people get from a nearly blank canvas.
A lot of the impact this demo obviously had was experienced with a big screen and a subwoofer the size of jumalauta's member list. CDC dispensers might want to take note of that.
Whooohooo. A FR Demo which runs on my PC without probs. Usually they cause some friggin errors. Thumbs up 4 hat one.
ups. there is a T missing.

I am not convinced. Some of the imagery is very good. Most is mediocre. Some is very poor.
I think perhaps on a big-screen with a powerful sound system this could have been very effective. I like experimentation on demos, and this one scores reasonably well on that front.
I also think that If there are ideas behind this work, they are poorly expressed. My harsher side leads me to believe the content of this demo is largely the result of a simplistic over indulgence in artistic intuition, mixed with the interpretation of "nearly structure" (on behalf of the audience as well as the creators).
Not crap, because it looks nice at parts, but that, imo, is all there is to it.

a lot better when watching this sober
not a demo of the year, or decade, or anything, for me though. but hey, we're all allowed to have differing opinions, aren't we? .. aren't we..?

There's never been anything like it! It's almost creepy, but that's not a bad thing. I love it!
holy smokes, just tried watching this one in the dark. seriously creepy stuff!
Top stuff! More darkness! :D
my demo-senses are so NOT tingling.

And where did you get the idea that that remark was broadly aimed at everyone who dislikes this prod? Taste is subjective, but when people start suggesting shallow intentions and questionable motivations based on their own tastes - as a few people have done here - I'm going to exercise my fucking right to feel better about myself.

And a lot of that impact was diminished by the use of alcohol. Just watched this at home yesterday. Worked even better. I've already decided where my next CDC is going, and it isn't this demo, but if I decide to change my mind, I bloody well am not going to listen to one word the "prod X only deserves Y CDC" police has to say.
And principally I'm against going ad hominem, but this is Pouet, so fuck it: You yourself have a tendency to scoff at people for their praise over some production, ie. "looking down your nose at whatever other people get from a nearly blank canvas". The only major difference between my contempt for the philistine and your contempt for the art faggot is that mine is more thinly veiled.
What praetor_alpha said. So I'll refrain from evaluating it as one.

at breeze it took us some time to get it working... someone forgot to read ryg's comments :)
after waiting about 15 minutes and knowing about all the cdc's we watched the demo eagerly waiting for the wow effect.
didn't happen for me. fucking cdc's blew my expectations towards the demo. that and watching it on sunday morning with a hangover.
still, mad props for werkkkkzeug3 usage and creation, image quality was niiiice - yeah fucking layers - and the music had so much bass that the lamps in the ceiling started vibrating. that was cool.

Hmmm, just a boring scene version of "2001 - Space Odyssey's" final minutes?
Some scenes are really beautiful, some are like interesting art, and some are just... boring. The "music" seems to fit the atmosphere but fails to connect the different scenes to a great demo.
Not for everyone, not for me, but you should watch it.

Wow, that was weird.
Ich weiss nicht. Hab ich was verpasst? Selten so ne langweilige Aneinanderreihung von gutem Code gesehen... At least a piggy for clean and prosper routines...
Some nice visuals, but boring.
i think this is the first time ever when chaoses code doesnt work on my machine. thats quite shameful, dare say it's not.
aight guys, there's the nfo and its purpose is to mention all the bugs and requirements, would you please use it like this next time, ok ?
regarding the demo itself: it's very good, to i'm quite concerned some substances have to be credited.

Well it was a demoparty. And a Finnish one at that.
I think the point is that alcohol typically strengthens the resolve of people at demo compos. I vividly recall far too many finnish demosceners lament the flow of beer and winnerdemo at breakpoint 2004.
*disco move*
Well, it's not my cup of tea.
Actually, I was waiting for the "starting" of the demo, and it never comes : it's look like a video game introduction.
Technically top-notch, but boring.
I need "movement" (:p), so I liked a bit the sphere+plate part, but the rest is definitely too slow/experimental/artistic/whateveryouwant for me, I probably didn't get the point of the demo :\.

It's true that alcohol makes democompos more enjoyable as an experience and heightens the social aspect, but still, in high quantities, it does decrease concentration, which I would say works in favour of immediately gratifying demos (Winnerdemo) against more atmosphere-based productions (828). Preferences differ, but still, many people I've spoke with think they'd get more out of this type of stuff at home in peace and rather see more "entertaining" stuff at compos.
Of course, I fully expect someone to say "whoa I just watched this while stoned" within 20 comments, utterly destroying my theory.
I like this... realy... realy... supA cool demo!!!
THANX FOR GREAT WORK!!!!
THANX FOR GREAT WORK!!!!
you are stoned 11 in the morning? =)
you're stoned at work??!!!
i'm a bit surprised that this one is getting THAT many CDC's and being called the best demo in years. However, I totally love the ambiance and creepy mood, plus Visualice's artwork is impressive once again. Big lollypop to all of you.
very tripping ;)
farjobb rules.
i think jobe and shifter have way too big a vocabulary!
I'll refrain from commenting on the demo as a whole as it didn't manage to reach me at all.
Massive kudos though for the audio engineering. Yeah it's not music.. but it's very smoothly produced and very fitting.

Wicked
it's cool but indeed 2001's final minutes are better.. and on the technical side there's also nothing truly stunning.. if it was a 64k it would be a surefire thumbs up case, though.
Just watched this first time at home after the party. Still fucking awesome.

I can't agree more with that.

This is where you're slightly wrong -the alcohol is simpy a catalyst for rash judgement, no more and no less.
Also, if you're coming to BP this year, you might be the only reason for me to bother showing up -I'd owe you a beer for being the most reasonable person in this clusterfuck :)
holy shit.
this is new. this is a big deal... a revolution.
i can understand how the audience responded with stunned silence. it's not minimal, or for that matter, thematic. there is content, but no message. it's not an "alternative" to any certain type of demo. it takes everything from the past several years of demos, puts it in a blender, and returns it in a totally new form. effects, 2d, 3d.. everything about demomaking is in fact here, just in a strange way.. and not noisy so it disturbs you, but slow and ambient so it draws you in. i haven't stared at my screen like that in a long time. believe it or not, not just anybody can pull off something like this. visualice, i salute you.
p.s. have a subwoofer.
p.p.s. for the record, i hated chimera, and i'm fine with most "mainstream" (whatever the hell that is, anymore) effect-centric demos.

I know Chimera is still the lanyard of navel gazing artsy-farsty people, but after such a creamy, rich subjective opinion piece, do we need this? It's like me trying to excuse the fact that Starstruck is the best thing that happened in the PC demoscene last year. :)

but honestly, who gives a sh*t? this is a demo not an intro ffs!
I'm too lazy to search the forum, but I had issues running this on my new laptop. First, it seems to just give a black screen if I choose 16:10 aspect ratio, and secondly, if I enable 4x antialiasing, I get an error during loading (I have a screenshot of the error message at home, but it triggered in ../_start.cpp:2828 IIRC). It might be that 4x isn't supported on my gpu (GeForce go 7400 - I think it is though...), but shouldn't in that case the aa-mode be removed from the gui?
the aspect ratio thingy is a stupid bug and will be fixed soon. the error you get with 4x antialiasing is "out of video memory" - has to do with too many rendertargets being allocated, and some of them rather late (yeah, stupid, i know). i'm working on it. sound issues are somewhat more mysterious (since we can't reproduce them on our machines), but we'll see what we can do.
Extremely cool visuals! Now, if only the music would have been less boring it would have been a masterpiece for me.
I admit I'm a fan from FR guys, and Visualice.
So my first impresion might not be so objective.
I'll try.
I dislike the clean and sharp edges feeling, of the whole masterpiece.
+ Concentrical arc rotating, with ray-beam particles.
+ blue sperm particles
+ end blurry particles
+ final credits
Nothing to say about the engine, tools, script: simple amazing.
16:9 version rocks!..4me boosts the ambience atmosfere, rather than straight fullscreen.

it's very very cool. some scenes are really imaginative (especially from 2:00 to 5:00) and the music fits perfect.
what i disliked is that the demo as a whole is in the end just a concatenation of "weird" scenes - which itself wouldn't much of a problem if there weren't such a lot of them. less would've been more.

@ryg, i said this was my personal opinion, _I_ give a shit about the size. ffs.
I add to my comment, that the strangeness I found in this prod was the dark ambiance (as said in the flamethread by someone), I like this.

I't remembers me of an anime-serie called BLAME. One season of BLAME is just as wierd and "nothing saying" piece of art like this.

Ok, i agree with the above posters about visualice's skills, but...
- Virgill is getting better again, but this demo soundtrack has the common problem of "going nowhere" and the lyrics simply don't fit. Please do more masterpieces like "I'm free" and stay away from the senselessness of your "hire" works (must I say wonderhere? :)
- There is absolutely NO evolution in style from all the older haujobb demos. It's nothing more than a beautiful, but absolutely senseless show of 3d objects with layers above. No single good hand-coded effect, just again the artsy form of a boring 3d flyby - and no difference to art or mosaik or moments or whatever.

I won't thumb this up or down. I won't watch thi again. It was just too irrelevant.

Still, well, despite of the marvellous work of the graphicians (nice to see that visualice is actually able to create a different picture than always the same again), i categorize this as "boring 3d keyframer", sorry. It doesn't do anything more than fly around static 3d scenes. And that's no art.
@stage7: but i started studying file format concerning demoscene datafile after they released it, anyway who gives a sh*t heh..
I liked the visuals, which kept me watching the whole demo instead of hitting esc, but it would be far cooler if the soundtrack had some music in it :(
Too sharp, too "linear", as what regards animations and movements (cameras and objects)... Long, boring. Some colors are ugly. The final credit scene is awesome. Anyways, I started to think it is a joke, all this hipe around this demo, after the first watching... Well...
I love this prod. It's one of my favourite audio-visual works. But it's not a demo, and I can't judge it as a demo. It's not why I've been following the demoscene since I grew fond of those cracktros on my A500. As a demo, it gets a thumb down.
I'd elaborate on that, but I think most people here understand what I mean.
About the work itself...
When it managed to make that sphere near the beginning disappear without me noticing right away, I knew it was going to be something special.
I sat back and was mesmerised. Like with most abstract art, I'm not one of the people who tries to interpret things consciously, or pretends to know what they mean. Just let it enter your subconscious, and it will either evoke feelings or it wont.
This is not Another Haujobb Demo. A lot of the later Haujobb prods just left me cold, like sequels of a big movie franchise with no love. This one offers me something, and I know I'll be able to come back to it and feel it inside me again and again.
Shame it could probably be more powerful if the technical aspects of the graphics were less... 2002 ;P

everything has been said before.
Wonderful, weird, original.
well done
There was a part of 2001 A Space Odyssey (the book), where Clarke described a trip of mind almost like this. The movie was very goofy there (well, '68...). I think this demo would fit there much better. Awesome prod.
Slow type of demo with atmosphere audio (no music).
obtrusively myterious
Visuals were quite interesting, but where is music?
i guess it makes a huge difference when you see it on the big screen for the first time
great modern demo
mostly pure mindcandy. Yay for Visualice!
Whoa!
Nice feeling, but technically harsh. I am starting to wonder if it is deliberately done since I know FB can do a lot better then this? And if it is done with a purpose, I dont get it...
great audiovisual trip.

omg it's fucking boooring...
Shit, I spend ages trying to kkapture this and only get a black screen, and now I find it's a bug if you choose 16:9!
Ryg: will you be adding more screen resolutions (i.e. 16:9/10 ones :) when you fix it? And will the video memory requirements come down a bit? Not important of course so long as the demo is still watchable, but would be nice. Also, I've not read through all the comments, but are the 'no music' comments referring to a bug, or lack of melody in the audio? No point testing for the latter.

great piece of work.. builds massive atmosphere.. something most demos fail to establish.
psionice: no new screen resolutions (probably). aspect ratio bug is fixed (duh, that was stupid) and so are vidmem requirements for the most bit (still hunting down one weird bug). the stuttering/vsync bug is COMPLETELY weird, i'll try to fix that one too, but so far i haven't been able to reproduce it.
what a crap... :(
=)
i adore this demo.
it's long, slow, macabre, imperfect.
the soundtrack is haunting.
the visuals are evoking a lot of things.

i think it's more than ok but my first impression - it suck... so piggie
confusing
Not sure i know where to start with this one. I can't decide if its wrong for all the right reasons or the complete reverse?
Lovely visuals but way too moody for my liking and I had to hit ESC before the end.
Also, black screens on 16:9 on my set-up.

too much slow for me...
It's quite boring, usual Visualice style (which is not bad, just too much here, without the music...). Still, a piggie, thanks to the blue pointsprite (?) part, that was awesome.
sorry folks. this was a huge disappointment. Liquid Wen was many times better.
Nice effects, but too "noir" for my taste...
And I still haven't seen it!!!
*yawn* ...didn't seen the end...
This is actually one of the few FR demos I don't find utterly boring. Really beautiful, despite all the glitches.
Some parts were truly fascinating while others not so much. A good demo but not the greatest one ever made.
What an intense atmo in this. Too bad it doesn't grow up to be resolved to a final point. My thought about demos is that they need to be entertaining, not just art. You can't simply eat 5 mn+ of moving images without a past, current, and final action. Without those rules, I am afraid it'd be enough to bore you to death.
But yeah, this is amazing work. Just love the visuals. Well done :)

Impressive, but boring... Maybe with music (not just ambient sounds) and a bit of smoothness between parts i would like it.
A black and white demo in 2007? What the heck are you guys on....
incredible!
Very nice, a tad too long for my taste though
nah... not for me
boring
I don't see, even after several reviews, how it's possible for that pile of shit to be votet that high. Either it's a new form of sarcasm, which i'am neglecting, or it's a massive lapse in taste and the disability to look beyond the group-name.
There are 2 good scenes @ best among 10+ disastrous boring others.
It's rating is unfair compared to the other competitors as well ... Constant Glow was a far better presentation.

One of my favorites!
Didn't like it.
You see, Farbrausch (This is also my opinion about what I've seen from CNS so far):
You guys aren't a bad group. You're not. Every production you produce is original and unique in its own way.
However.
Every producion you produce also uses the same ugly filters, overcompressed textures, and absolutely no "heart" factor.
I see your prods as empty animations. Where's half the demo spirit - CODE? Where's all the fun gone?
Keep making demos, but don't expect thumb-ups from me.

i 100% concur with muh and Thygrion
"Every production you produce is original and unique in its own way."
yeah, because we take great pains to think of a new number for every single one of them!
"Every producion you produce also uses the same ugly filters, overcompressed textures, and absolutely no "heart" factor."
care to give a concrete example? because i honestly don't see how any of these three points applies to this demo.
"Where's half the demo spirit - CODE?"
uhm yeah, now i remember, we stopped writing code in 2001! i KNOW we forgot something!

...to elaborate a bit: the way a lot of people are talking about this demo is extremely irritating to me. i can definitely understand why one would dislike this demo, or similarly why a lot of people just don't care for it.
i do NOT understand why there's so much discussion about purely technical aspects (like how it uses lowpoly models, uses no interesting shaders, is not effect-centric, etc). all of this is true, but it's also *completely* besides the point, because this demo is about as much about code as konsum, malpasset
and of spirits taken are.
we've done our fair share of completely code-centric and otherwise quite "soulless" productions (e.g. fr-08, candytron, kkrieger), to the point where not even us coders are really interested in it anymore.
to now see this demo, which is basically visualice pouring his soul out, called "heartless" and "empty" seems outright bizarre to me.

Ryg: you got my compliments! Some people are just to critical.
I hope FR never stop making prods. the day FR stops the demoscene died a little..
In anyway, discusions about productions have always been there. Ask Chaos about his WoC demo from 1992 which lost from Wicked Sensation by TRSI or the TP 1994 demo which was released unfinished. Sceners always have to discuss things alot without nuances.. Dont mind them and shut them up with the next great FR release.
p.s. Maybe Werkzeug needs to be updated for this to version 4 ? :)
In ayway cheers! and see you at bp07

my two cents: farbrausch has been traditionally bipolar about demos/intros - either they had a strong emphasis on the technical side with little emotional factor (the product, poem to a horse, etc.), or have been completely dire technically but with a larger level of depth (konsum, malpasset, etc.) - this of course is due to the considerable number of people in fr and of course i guess the same attitude i have: hating to repeat myself in prods.
on the other hand, what this boils down to is that you will always have a divided audience because the demoscene itself is polarized the very same way your demos are (no wonder), and some people go crazy for the latest shader trickery while others prefer something minimal that just "feels" well.
in other words, you guys have been carefully avoiding the middle ground (and rightfully so), but it comes with a price.
I'm sorry for starting a flamefest.
I was just expressing my opinion.
Sorry if you're offended. Really, I am, I don't want to hurt anyone emotionally.
Maybe I just should've kept my mouth shut.
At least I can thumb it to try to redeem the hurt I've caused.

When this rolled on the big screen, the partyhall was very silent.
clearly a lot of work was put into this, but it is just too arty-farty for my taste.
Felt like an introduction to a very strange and interesting movie. Great stuff.
I had to force myself to watch it til the end.

this should solve all reported issues, and definitely does fix the aspect ratio issues and reduces vram requirements, but i can't say about the sound problems because i'm not able to reproduce them. i've fixed something that may have caused the bug, but as said, i'm pretty clueless as to the actual reason.

very intense
i love it...
finally it works on my laptop.. in all of is beauty
ha! greets to Boznaj! what you would expect from those guys (Visualice + PS soundtrack) ? it is really not something you should criticize I suppose :) (only ryg will take critics to his heart because of his work on werkzueg 3) BTW greets to PS as well (you might not remember me.. but I do remember butterflies without wings).. I somehow have fun listening to noise a bit - apparently Bonzaj don't.. but well.. he has poor economical situation, you know.. he might not understand those little "perversive" pleasures that you apperently had during making of this thing...
of course I don't think it's beautiful.. and it was not the point, right ? so don't give you "rulez" sign.. whatever.. I did a little track for you: http://sphere.pl/~tomkh/sick3.mp3 <- in the same mood I guess (but Suboceanic-synth for all Suboceanic fans out there - yeah right :) )

BTW werkzeug 3 - it's so funny .. you got the joke, right ?
BTW now the honest review (but mostly for people that think an obvious way): I had a feeling that sometimes it should be really worth to have more freedom to polish some details.. it is really visible that you were experimenting with it a lot.. did your best.. but encountered big limitations of the "form".. I believe that it might be a bit depressing for very sensitive artists.. maybe for you as well, from my experience: I usually use "pure forms" I mean.. the simplest form possible and always have a full control over details.. I think you don't achieved it here.. but otherwise a nice try :) (a software renderer? a return of simple pure code? I know Zilog - but it's not THIS as well.. you are on a good way maybe.. not that I'm that expert.. those are just my honest opinons what "should help" in future, the direction I would like to explore as well)
so yes.. I agree in Bonzaj that MFX demo was better from that point of view, although well.. c'mon - it was bad in other aspects... and crappily based on Matrix - duh - what were they thinking ? and also not polished enough... I'm sorry to say it: but well, I feel respect only to more serious artists that had great talents (and I don't feel like one of those, it's a long hard way, I'm not saying you can't achieve that).. although it is funny sometimes to watch those amateur crappy things and how people react emotionally at it - sort of like an artists school :)
Nice and psychedelic, in some cases reminding me 73 million seconds by Pulse.
Thwarted! Just saw the final link, and I have a nice 17" widescreen laptop with a decent GPU handy! Perfect! Gave it a quick go.. highest res, 4x AA, 16x10. And it was running perfectly, except that the video card refused to stretch the demo itself to fill the screen (the loading bar filled it, so I don't know why not? Or is it a bug?) and worse still, I couldn't see shit because some engineer at sony thought the monitor would look better with a reflective coating! I want to watch demos mr. sony, not my own face!
So, looks to be working well, except possibly the aspect ratio, which might or might not be down to the video card or driver. It's an x700 btw, no idea on the driver version.

psionice, your display may be widescreen, but the demo is not (it's designed for 4:3). so if you view it on a widescreen display, you get black bars on the sides. this is completely intentional and the way it's supposed to work - the aspect ratio is there to make sure that squares stay square (so to say). it doesn't change the demo itself.
Thanks ryg, makes sense now. Any plans to use wide displays properly in future prods btw? Seems they're becoming the standard now.
we "use them properly" in prods that natively render in widescreen mode :) (fr-025 and fr-049 for example). same thing as with videos really - the content has a certain "design aspect ratio" and we just try to display things properly without unnecessary stretching.
Ah, had forgotten those. Raises an interesting question though. Although having typed it, I reckon it'd be better on the bbs so cut and past it is..
piękne, ale *.exe sypie się u mnie przy początkowej prekalkulacji (P4+7600)
Were the late Tarkovsky and Kubrick alive to see this demo, they would really-really appreciate it.
Reminded me of the space scenes in "2001: Space Odyssey" and the planet surface views in "Solyaris". I only felt artsiness-overdose at one scene.
Awesome soundtrack, too!

Eep! Thank you for the wonderful nightmare, guys :) I see the 2001/Kubrick influence here too. Been away from the scene for a few months, this was a lovely reunion for me!
All that can be said about this prod has been said, so I just give it my definit thumbs UP. Was Cool to see it live at ICONS.
what a satanic prod!
what the fuck ???
insane art work ?
not my taste and NOT the demo of the year. Sorry

fatal error on 2 computers :(
pc prod of the year so far :) even better than debris if you ask me. I love the atmosphre, the art, the sound (music..?) and so on. rules! too bad is has the "missing light on textures" thing but I guess that werkkzeug3 and my pc don't want to properly cooperate (same thing on debris).
something that i want to watch for the second time. seems like a attempt to create something what was not seen before. for me, 828 fails in gaining a deeper meaning of what is displayed. even if this has to be just a parade of moreless random scenes, ok, but then it has smaller basic value. seems like farbrausch doesn't have a problem in getting superb fx to our screens like puting them together into some worthy form. gonna see it again if i understand it (perhaps).
crs, never question a demo ;)
Congratulations for releasing two best demo ever this year.
This final version is great, but I have two complaints: right in the begining when the sphere is moving there's some z-fighting with the ball's shadow, and I would like to see something on the side borders (alternative crop in final2?).

underwarter particles saved it from thumb down :)
Mixed feelings about this...
It's not that I don't like it - even though I am a graphics whore. It's just that after I saw the demo, I looked around my lab... and everything felt so alien to me. I felt like an alien to my surroundings. It was a very strange experience for me... Near the end, I admit this very ominous feeling of impeding doom had almost grown...
I can't thumb it up just yet... Very strange demo, very experimental.
ps. mini-thumb up for soundscapes...

No matter how you put it, this is a very unique experience.
WOW!! ran this last night - best demo in a long long time, not for the masses - it's the kinda thing that should be on the warp video dvd's. Makes me think thats wot a crazy dmt trip would be like :)
fall in sleep during this demo - totally overated crap (14MB?!? wtf!)
Definite thumbs up, this is a brave and awesome demo. Maybe there are more technically accomplished demos but this is the most mind-alteringly ominous demo i've ever seen. Sorry to everyone who can't wrap their head around abstract art but you''re missing out.
This is absolutely outstanding. I suppose it is one of – if not the – demo that comes really close to the very sense of the term “digital art” as it used outside the demoscene. I also immediately had Stanley Kubrick’s 2001/2010 in mind – clearly the sphere and the monolith are metaphors for the same thing. It seems to have this unbelievable amount of atmosphere, deepness, sense and meaning in every single frame and as in 2001/2010 you can feel that something important is happening – and since the you cannot immediately understand the meaning there is so much space to reflect and project your own emotions, feelings, fears and ideas into this space. Brilliant!
Really beautiful! Some incredibly great scenes, and a nice soundtrack. If I have to put my finger at somethiing, the lack of consistency in styles and transitions between the scenes made it feel a little, well, inconsistent. But definitely one of the best and most interesting demos i've seen in a very long time. Thank you!
Just beautiful... :)
I don't think any other demo has ever had such an emotional pull on me. This demo is an absolutely mind-numbing, sense-drenching, magnificient work of art. Well done lads, well done.
(Farewell Delicious, there's a new cdc in town ;) )
(Farewell Delicious, there's a new cdc in town ;) )
reminds me a bit of the film "The Ring" - and the video that made everyone die within 1 week if they watched it! hopefully this demo doesn't have such an effect :-s
Saw it again tonight - had trouble breathing - amazing work
Not my cup of tea. It's just dead boring.
I love the dark.
I love this demo so much I put the video on my PSP so I can watch it often on the go ;-)
This one prolly the best Visualice thingie ever... yeah, you can either love it or hate it. But... i really do love it. Deep stuff, Art, Ambient, Great, Thumb UP!
Great EmoDemo to put it that way^^
Great EmoDemo to put it that way^^
Definitely a thumb up. The whole party place went dead silent during this one.
828828828828828
finally some nice demo to watch ;)
In my opinion, this is the second best demo this year - just behind Debris. Great moody production... I've never been such a great fan of Visualice (with the exception of "Liquid Wen") but this is his masterpiece! Gave me the chills!
I know it's art when I don't get it and I'm SO not getting this. Not my kind of bag, baby.
at first i hated it, but then noticed that 055 is a bit like listening to some of ulver's songs, it requires concentration. it's quite long but not too long to get bored. i love the design, but hate the fact that it's a bloatdemo. still, it's among the best ones i've seen and has the courage to be different and not fall into the usual clichées. it's easy to make a crappy annoying piece of shit-abstract noisedemo, but some how farbrausch has managed to avoid that in 055.
can't believe i haven't watched til now. too awesome!!
requires much concentration to watch, but it's worth it. great thing!
nice
horror :)
different!
A spooky dark ambient demo from fr? Sign me up!
Spooky. In a good way.

uhh.. nah... sry.. very boring and ugly.. you can use it for spacenights on "BR1" TV Show... it's top marked to get in sleep...
where is THIS spirit ? :/ that was really popular...

lamer alert! lamer alert! raise shields and arm clue torpedos!
so says the preacher man, but I don't go by what he says
The merits of this production can be debated of course, but I think it's pretty obvious that it wasn't ever meant to be a sequel to fr-025 or have any other relation with it. The comparison is absurd and rather clueless.
what preacher said.
overdesigned..... sorry I was not able to get into.. but for sure awesome direction and material.
Extra thumb up for waffles GYBE quote :)
weird... and fascinating :)
polished up demo --- thumbs up
NAH.!!!! won´t ever run it again ;)
the best demo i`ve ever seen
respect to visualice
respect to visualice
i watched it many many times, but forgot to thumb here. love.
Scary but beautiful.
I'm feeling now, like there... How did You guess ? FR ;)
Weird and beautiful.
I <3
Nice mood. But I miss some "real music".
I understand the controversy, but to me it was an epic mindfuck.
best demo of 200X
vittu menee järki ku kattoo tätä.
love you guys.

This demo truly shows what happens when you abuse to much drugs
!!!!!!!!!?
NIce direction and atmosphere, but a tad too boring (and just plain weird( for me. !!!?
Atmosphere
- definitely not my style, pressed esc after 3-4 minutes as my head started to hurt
+ there's probably a lot of work behind this demo

Now, clearly there is a lot of work put into this. But it's not my cup of tea, and anyway it could be much better with a little care. There are very serious visual "bugs" which somewhat ruin the demo, and, face it, 75% is simply butt ugly.
blala, i think you are wrong. its '3001: a space oddyssey'.
Well, there is style there, but I'd like to see more action. This kind of ambient flyby just isn't very interesting to see. Come on Visu, turn on the happy mood for a change :)
This just popped up on the public's choice and it looks like I never thumbed it, so I just watched the fixed version.
Like the party version, I can't explain any of it, but when the busted android appeared with digitized ooze leaking out after all the build-up, it touched me.
Also there's something indescribably solid about that rolling ball at the start, the sound and visuals are so tightly coupled, it works really well.
If you can't draw your own conclusions or exercise your imagination, then it's your loss.

msx is better than gfx
... or not... anyway IT'S FREAKING AMAZING
did i miss to thumb it?
really, not my cup of tea.
perhaps my favourite "farbrausch" demo! i can feel deeper thoughts here... after watching it several times now, it is still interesting! all elements are connected to each other and make up a subconscious space of possible meanings (science mother, the planet, technology, hypertext sphere...).
it really uses the strengths of the main elements of demos in general to compose a dense composition, it is strong as a demo, not as movie, so to say. the direction is good, the chronology makes sense! and the soundscape feels tightly coupled to the main theme, amplifying it subtly.

ps: have an look at 'Tod Dockstader - Aerial', very similar scapes, rather soundtrackish
Visually stunning, and difficult to wrap my brain around.
Really.
that was a little creepy.. although i like the creativity and many of this group's work before... this one just creeps me out
Great atmosphere. The music is so gooood...
noise sound (I don't think you can call it music) with nondescript clicks + stuff obscured by so many overlays you can barely see it + slow camera movement = atmosphere. It worked for me, apparently it's really that simple. But it just dragged on and dragged on and dragged on and it got really boring in the end.
And boy stuff was ugly. Lowpoly models, some very low-res textures, shadows so blocky they are hardly recognizable as such... Maybe acceptable for 64k's, but for a full-fledged demo, no, not at all. Makes me thumb it down.

"making 828 is like making noise-demos....just SLOWER.!"
i don´t get it.! to me its just BORING AND UGLY and I´m feeling very tired now.! Guess I´ll watch MASAGIN next to wake up again.!
sry,no offence, i just donlikeit.!

Out of every demo I have seen thus far, this is absolutely 100% my favorite. Downright amazing. I probably blinked only 3 times during this, because I was so enthralled. As well, this has made me realize that there others out there who don't do just bright&shiny stuff but also dark, somber and creepy atmospheric stuff. Exactly the kind of flavor I so greatly want to produce.
a grinding mechanical nightmare. gorgeous artistry and some wonderfully ambiguous imagery
Just watched this again. One of the few demos that get better with time.
The best thing ever produced by the demoscene, by its best artist. True artistery.
Art for art's sake...THIS IS THE SCENE!
ok I get it now ...
haters notwithstanding
looks lovely! very minimal music which fits well with the visual style. nice colors.
of course, I see the work in here. but still, it is too long, and it is boring.
WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA
hmm, kind of boring. And too long.
Bestness
wut? fixed.
The ambience is overwhelmingly great. I love this.
Damn, great atmosphere! I approve! <3
=)
damn! so creepy and out there
you can better!
Boring
Brilliant
!! MindFuck on par with Kubrick, thanks Visualice! On an Intel X3100 too <3
simply additive-layered crap content, sound -1, boring
We want more! This alien life form is scary and intriguing. Audio fits perfect.
I can't believe I haven't thumbed this up yet...

way back then in 2007... wait, what?
Mixed feels. I do like some scenes (underwater, bubbles, red parts), and I really did not like others.

Saw it again today - it truly is a masterpiece
Fascinating.
i sense darkwave fascination in here. thumb up all the way, we must have been close relatives in previous lives.
Stunning.
Almost 4 years ago I wrote some very unkind words about this prod, which were completely undeserved and untrue. This is truly a work of art. I must've been jealous of all the hype for the production or something - really, I'm not sure why I said what I said. Anyways, this is fantastic. Absolutely stunning, and I can't see how I didn't see this before. Amazing.
Oh yeah, and I'm truly sorry, for what it matters :)
interesting twist of the story Ferris :) back then this demo received a thumb up from me, but today i think, just like you, that it deserves a tons of CDC's, because it's an amazing and beautiful demo.
These are exactly the nightmares I used to have in high fever, something indescribable by words perfectly reproduced in this masterpiece, I'm speechless...
Nice and weirds FXs.
But this demo is too slow paced for me! This probably comes from the "music", which could be changed for a totally different result IMO.

bof
goes to the scary demo category for me - I like it :)

Far from my favorite, but works really well as a dark ambient demo. Visualice's magnum opus, in my opinion (the recent works... aren't).
nice gfx. the music is a bit weired. would be better with msx.
Well, I liked it. Even after all the arguing ;)
-
impressive
visualice, are you sure you've only been taking the *occasional* pint?
splash!
Great visuals!
Too scary.
Not my cup of tea. I see no coherence nor screenplay there. Anyway, I can't thumb it down considering the work behind and some nice scenes though :)
Ugly and disgusting. What happened to good old farbrausch?
Excellent demo. I like those kinnda esthetic explorations, far from mainstream prods. Thanks, that is a food for spirit.
visuals are not my cup of tea, overall it looks unfinished and messy (won't fit to the übersmooth music). but no thumbs down or piggie because of the amazing sound that creates a very nice atmosphere.
Visually stunning, but not really engaging overall.
Intriguing.
having 828 glöps, Intriguing, and decimally.
this is the stuff i love
this is the stuff i love
*shrug*
Everyone who voted this down are a bunch of clueless idiots ... sorry.
Now spew all your bile over me instead of this demo, which is a masterpiece.

Best fr demo
Wow.. this is pretty stunning. A fair amount of WTF (I can't believe the boiled egg smashed through THREE WHOLE WAFFLES towards the end!) mixed with equal amounts of stunning direction and brilliant sound design
best composition of abstract shapes into something which implies intent which i've seen... everything seemed in place + awesome cinematic vibe. sound design on point
