I would advise to check your burnt cd-roms from the mid 90s-2005 era for surface corrosion. The random stuff backup cds in my misc box all show signs of decay (discolored edges) and i tend to store "safe" -

regarding old CD-Rs, particularly the cheap silver ones just get cracks and start to flake, the oldskool green/blue surfaced ones seem to last forevaaah -
