New article about the demoscene: https://in-sightpublishing.com/2024/08/08/demoscene/ -
'origin and evolution of the demoscene' and then a text that reads like a highschool presentation that discusses three demos with personal presumptions. such academic quality! -
h-index rocket fuel, for sure ! :D -
Another Friday is up on us! -
seems like demoscene started with 2nd reality, anything before that is just antiquity -
lol -
and another mighty fine takeaway message: only a lamer would do a 100MB demo in 1993 -
Yeah. In 2024 too. ;) -
and this will affect the Demoscene. -
2nd Reality is wayyy overrated, I just don't get the fuss about it -
It is. It also is not very good imho, but it is what it is (tm) -
same can be said about the Amiga -
never, Amiga always rules -
But other MS-DOS demos came out before that were comparable, even FC's own work, so why is 2ndR so special? -
"Yes, indeed. Why ?" said the old master. Then he smiled, and went back to his ASM code, like the conversation was over... -
None were comparable when it came to art and design and music and overall influence. It was one of the first things that showed that PC could actually compete with the Amiga. -
It was inevitable that the modular, open-ended architectural nature of the IBM PC would continue to improve as the years went by, so it was bound to surpass the competition in specifications eventually. In other words: foregone conclusion, nothing to see here. -
2nd Reality is the best mediocre demo ever. Would have been all but forgotten if it weren't for the killer soundtrack. =) -
fact that it ran as screensaver in many PC shops also helped its popularity -
Go write a scroller about it.
