I think the question is more: why are PC intros not 40k? Afaik, Amiga intros have always been 40k, even before I saw any PC intros (and the first ones were 100k?) Could have something to do with the extra code required for video/sound support on PC... No
68k instructions are 2 bytes at least, 386 1 byte. When size-optimizing, x86 should have a slight advantage, although 68k has some clever addressing modes that could save instructions sometimes.
Oh, and the "... No" there was actually supposed to mean "No, I'm not Optimus", regarding the length of the line :)
It's quite simple why Amiga doesn't have 256 byte demos... DOS is the only OS I know that's still being used, which supports raw binaries... Amiga requires headers, so it's probably impossible to do anything in 256 bytes, much like in Windows.
