why would anyone want to use dev-c++? didn't they stop maintaining that years ago? -
because it's free, does mostly what it promises and works out of the box without installing loads of shit and tweaking configuration files? -

I quite like Dev-C++. I find it to be a no-nonsense, easy to use, basic IDE. -
Why not use Code::Blocks ? Its free and it works out of the Box. - There's plenty of other (much better + regularly updated) free IDE's that does that.

visual c++ express is free as well - so is eclipse! in fact textmate for windows could have been amazing but well...
- eclipse? oh god... :p It might have gotten better, but last time I tried it, it was a horrendous slow pile of bloatware.
