Ambient occlusion in FPS games is a joke. What a dumb idea. -
Not as dumb as texture mapping. -
Not as dumb as polygons. -
Games with graphics? Pfft... -
Games? Aren't these those interactive demos? -
Demos? Aren't those non-interactive games? -
Srsly though. Look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBZ7NEyPUDw . That's not realistic! And the realistic part of it can be done with simple lightmaps. -
Games? Pfft... -
man that game has a chill on it :o -
its because they use ssao, which looks like ass 90% of the times its used -
There's a difference between SSAO and regular AO? -
ssao is just a post-process effect, it darkens corners and holes. But it's cheap. AO is an actual lighting effect, which can look great, but is hard. -
SSAO = Super Special Ambient Occlusion, d'uh! -
yes, ssao is just a big fat fake -
that SSAO implementation in "Amnesia" sure is a ducked up implementation though... does not take large depth discontinuities into account and is way to dark... SSAO can be done a whole lot better than this! -
then again, in a game like that, you could consider it appropriate. -
Super Special Ambient Occlusion is dead. Give me Super Special Global Ilumination! -
I've made better looking SSAO than that. Which implies it's not just bad, but shamefully bad ;) -
can't hear you nananana -
it's art; you just can't understand it -
holy crap :o !! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2EIsnr_cv4 -
