I think the soundtrack is often more important for the mood of the demo, though it rarely seems to be the main focus. - I find that the demos I like the best are those where the music has been tightly integrated with the visuals in some way.

I once read an article detailing how autistic people like visuals synced to music. Made sense ^____^ -
panic: the concept must be REALLY awesome to make a demo work without any sound. but you never know until you try ;) but some demos would be better without their horrible sound so ... always a point of view. - Oldschool demos worked just fine without any kind of sync :)
