never makes demos. wants high quality 3D and music. complains about filesize. -
but demosceners are supposed to be fucking crazy magical super coders who implement commercial quality audio generation in 4 kilobytes or less and while drunk... -
Anything less = SHIT. No wonder the scene is dying :) -
write code, add content, [DEADLINE], size optimise. -
"so we should use the codec efficiency as a metric for downloadability?" that's what happened in the music scene when the xm/it files grew larger than a 128kbps mp3 -
write code, add content, [DEADLINE], start working on the next production instead of wasting time on useless crap -
hehe, mine is more like: write code, add con[DEADLINE], start work on final, fuck it, start something new. -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7mld8vlsg8 listen to this and do the demo -
gloom: the "bar" for a good demo appears to be "the sum of everything else that was ever good, scaled up to 2013 projected levels, and in 64k or less".. achieveable huh? :) -
i reckon "the bar" is merely what you planned to do when you started the project. The end result almost never matches the plan :) -
absence: I wouldn't say that's the same thing, seeing as the main point of an XM wasn't that it was real-time calculated, which is the point with demos. -
so mp3 is ok for the audio. Mp4 for the video part can't be a problem. But the replayer must be realtime. -
psonice: I see you've distilled the essence of the "problem" and the insane logical fallacy behind size-complaining. -
sooooo many text ... go make a thread about it :| -
Audio in demo demoscene and game industry is "don't bother me, just make it work" for 9% of people anyway so it doesn't really count. -
Multiline overflow is not supported on the oneliner. -
Audio for browser demos is using ogg for everthing, mp3 for walled garden products. -
Some browser demos precalc their tunes. -
you should precalc your demo tune -
### man with sphere as head. disco music. glow. billie jean scene without michael jackson. ### -
http://vimeo.com/75099805 aaaa miii ggg.. aaa -
Thou shalt precalc all data! -
But don't store the pre-calced data! We want longer loading bars, not longer download times! -
leGend: Nice. You can see (at 1:44) an effect from a masterpiece called Pulse. -
gloom: yes i know how it works (what kb said, etc), i just don't like that audio has different rules than graphics
