ryg: at that point of optimization I'm not sure there's many ways to cut some bytes off though for having already learnt some tricks in other's source code I think that sometimes you have to face the reality and admit that some tricks are really efficient and you can not go without them

but I don't know if we have a total rip or the other case here

Judging from the fact that atleast #1 is byte-identical to fr-016b (with one exception, the step with byte), I strongly think it's ripping :)

the 1.com is too much like fr's one, and it is slow as hell (i can see better scrollings on my Amstrad CPC with Z80 8bits at 3.3Mhz)
that's why this 'prod' sucks
