I really hope that this whole nightmare, lasting already 8 years, will soon end in peace. Patience and strength to the residents of Russia and Ukraine. Especially those who got into the epicenter of these events, forced to leave their home or lost loved ones.
I wish the adequacy to the government of all countries of the world in decision-making. I hope and believe that WW-III will not come...
Our grandfathers – Russians, Ukrainians (and others), who passed WW-II together, sharing their last shirt and a piece of bread, protecting each other with their bodies – were dying not for such future.
Russia is not the enemy of Ukraine! Stay in a sanity and sober mind. Do not incite enmity between peoples and inside the States...

@Leander, you and other hypocrites who "have nothing against the Russians", but would be happy with their deaths. All those fucking humanists who allegedly oppose Nazism, but themselves spread rot on innocent Russian children in kindergartens in their country. You are the real Nazis, you are able to evaluate people only on the basis of nationality! Don't you have the brains to understand that not all Russians think the same way? Not all Ukrainians think the same way. Not all Germans, French, Americans and others think the same way. And not everyone who lives with you in the same city thinks the same as you and want the same. In words you oppose violence, but in reality you behave like fascists! Come to your senses! The vast majority of Russian sane people do not want any violence, deaths and wars. You call yourself a civilized society, so be so in deeds, not in words! In any military and economic decision there are specific interested people. This is not all the inhabitants of the country, and not even the majority. You say that the Russians are zombified by the local media (although this is not true for many people), but what are you zombified by? General hysteria against the Russian people, allegedly for the sake of protecting Ukrainians? What kind of nonsense are you talking about? Who will you protect with such methods? Do not be a herd of sheep, repeating the actions of the majority, turn on your head! It feels like the world has gone crazy, being in some kind of ridiculous hypnotic state. Wake up! We are all inhabitants of the planet Earth. Russians are those who were born in one country. Yes, many of us have some common mentality, traditions and values. But this is not a desire for war and corruption. We are all different. Same as you! Real Russian people have always been famous for their broad soul, kindness and generosity. But not hatred towards other nations. And now we want a normal calm and peaceful life. I hope the same as you. It may come as a surprise to you, but many (or the most) Russian politicians are not full-blooded Russians! Wake up from this dope, from this worldwide hysteria and finally start thinking with your own head. We are all hostages of a situation created by someone, but not desired by us. Civilian Russians, Ukrainians and residents of all other countries. Maybe it's time to stop throwing rotten eggs and start helping each other get through all this?!...

@Jin X, as a citizen of a country that invaded other country on the basis of different nationality, it’s bold of you to call the other “Nazis” - no humility, no modesty. Just like the Russian media and politicians you call the Western reaction exaggerated. Do you realize what would be an adequate reaction? Sending troops with a “special military operation” to move the front-line from Ukraine to Russian cities, forcing more than 6 million people to leave their homes and 4 millions leaving the country. Does it sound more equal and less exaggerated to you? This is not happening for two primary reasons - nuclear arsenal that Russia has and dependency on the Russian natural resources, that other countries made believing that we’ve learned a lesson from WW2 and can live together in peace. Russia clearly did not learn. Saying that “it’s not Russian citizens that attack Ukraine”, but “it’s Russia” is like saying that “sanctions are not aimed at Russian citizens”, but “at Russia”.
Are really you surprised that people reject everything that comes from Russia and hatred has manifested since the Russia started invasion? You call the other Nazis but your “Great Russia” placed own citizens in position of The 3rd Reich in eyes of the whole world.
Then you dare to call the others sheep zombified by media and propaganda? We do not need media, we host refugees (yes, my family included) and we get information first hand from their relatives who stayed in Ukraine. In comparison to the situation there, increased prices and scarcity of goods are nothing but inconvenience. For the reason of putting pressure on the Russian government to stop the war, European citizens so far accept the negative impact of the sanctions, with skyrocketing prices. Can you?
You ask for helping each other, but did you actually do anything to help those harmed by the actions of your country, or just complain in the Internet?
added on the 2022-03-23 23:14:45 by ilmenit ilmenit
@Ilmenit, first of all, I am not complaining, but protecting peaceful citizens who have done nothing wrong and do not even want it (unlike you in relation to them). Secondly, civilized people operate with the concept of personal responsibility. And an attempt to impose collective responsibility on everyone who has a common affiliation to any group seems like madness. The same like hate to all women for the fact that one of them offended this hater. Jailing all employees for someone stealing something. The persecution of some nation, because some group of people of this nation has done something terrible. Etc. Can you adequately treat to Germans who are not involved in WWII? You are not hounding the Americans, who have invaded and unleashed many wars over the past 100 years: in Yugoslavia, Iraq, etc. Or are these countries friendly to you? Or "this is different"? And with such an attitude towards me and other normal people calling to come to their senses, should I be "humile and modest." in front of those who arrange the genocide of our people? Or do you really believe in the nonsense that Russians want Ukrainians to die?

I lost my long post debunking @JinX claims to accidentally hitting refresh; maybe it's for the best. I'll just thumb the prod now.
rulez added on the 2022-03-26 11:39:14 by pestis pestis
@pestis, what is there to debunk? If you do not personally participate in something, do not give command or support and are not the official person responsible for this action, no one has any moral right to impose responsibility for it on you and blame you. And there can be no "buts" here! This concerns you, me and every citizen of any country. And I don’t personally know anyone who would wish death on civilians in Ukraine, but I’m sure that if we were in Europe now, we would be labeled a lot and many would treat us like murderers. So answer now: are all citizens of Europe civilized people? I have nothing against individual residents of Europe, there are many reasonable people there, as in Russia, Ukraine or the USA, but the general trend is this, and this is unfortunate.

jin x, what you're essentially saying is "i oppose the killing of innocent civilians BUT bla bla bla". what you have to start understanding real quick now is that the more "bla bla bla" you write, the more people will start doubting what you wrote before the "BUT". so let's agree to stop polluting this prod's comment section with such scribblings now, OK?

What??? Essentially I said what I said, and no more else. There's no "BUT" about my negative to killing the innocent civilians. How even more specifically should I express that I am against these kills? And against the persecution of the innocent civilians of Russia too.

@Jin X, I understand that you consider the collective responsibility unfair. Your comments however express that well, you are actually responsible, both collectively and personally. “Can you adequately treat Germans who are not involved in WWII?”. Actually, I don’t have too, because even they recognize it. It took Germany two generations to understand after WW2 that every single citizen was responsible for atrocities that their nation did. I don’t expect that your or “Russian proud mentality” will change soon in that matter. First, you neglect moral responsibility bringing “whataboutism”. You do not feel guilty, because “the others do the same”, therefore Russia invading Ukraine is generally OK. Lack of moral responsibility has political implications: active support of your government or passive political apathy. You ask how “can you be punished, when you did nothing?”. Exactly, you did nothing, and you are still doing nothing. You have done nothing personally and collectively for the last 20 years, giving more and more oppressing power to your own government.
You also seem not to understand one thing: Russia is not treated differently than any other country would be by bringing war to Europe. For decades there was no direct military threat there. Your country stopped being a business partner and became an invader, shattering the feeling of peace. Russia didn’t end the invasion after strong reaction from the West. Do you believe that after winning Ukraine, Russia would stop and not attack other countries in Europe? Conclusion of it isn’t nice. Unfortunately for Russian citizens, Russia must become economically and technologically broken to a level that will not allow it to maintain a strong military force in the future. Considering how totalitarian your government is becoming, I don't envy anyone in Russia about what will come in the future. It’s not the “rotten West” and “uncivilised Europe” who are enemies of Russian citizens. It’s your own government that brought it to you.

@ilmenit, let's not fantasy what another is thinking about something if he don't say that. The conversation about the Germans came in the context of attitudes towards people. There was no talk that everything is OK because others did like that. And I absolutely don't consider this an excuse, and I never thought so. I'm very worried about what's going on. And I condole to the families who lost their homes and loved ones. The reaction of society to aggression from different countries is by no means the same, I don't believe in this, sorry. I understood your point of view about principle of collective responsibility but I don't agree with it. It's not pride like you said, it's common sense to me. Collective responsibility is destructive and leads to interethnic hostility, which is happening now. This is the principle of vendetta, eternal enmity. Similar to how someone takes revenge on all the people of a certain nation, because one of them made something terrible to him. It's absolutely the same.

jin x, no offense meant but your kind of phrasing we only ever get to hear from pro-putin sources. if you are not in fact pro-putin then you would be wise to speak less cryptically and to stop employing so many pro-putin tropes in your argumentation.

@Jin X, I agree with most of what you wrote here. Unfortunately it's not that one Russian attacked some Ukrainian in a bar, but it's aggression on level of a country. You do not agree with the response but I would love to hear your opinion what other response would be more humane and at the same appropriate to shorten the terror in Ukraine and to break Russian ability to destroy other nations.
added on the 2022-03-26 22:58:08 by ilmenit ilmenit
@havoc, everyone sees what they want in the interlocutor's wording. Understanding others is a great art. No offense. But if everyone knew how to do this, there would be much less wars in the world.

@ilmenit, at the least, many people should be calmer towards those who are not personally guilty of death of others. And proceed from this when making decisions. Then such solutions will be found. I am deeply convinced that there are far more good people than scoundrels. The only problem is that people are often seized by base instincts and vices, which are especially aggravated in troubled times. And nationality has nothing to do with it. And from humanism to aggression is one step. Therefore, when declaring and or doing something, it is worth asking yourself more often: "Am I not overstepping this line?"
added on the 2022-03-27 21:55:37 by Jin X Jin X
But one thing - our civil showdowns. Other things are political games. Fighting with aggression is not the only reason, is it?
