Forever STE soundtrack sample disk
But what for?
In 2003, i was working on the biggest demo yet i had
ever started, but besides experimental routines and
proof-of-concepts, nothing ever really materialized.
Except for the soundtrack. Strange and i spent an
afternoon at Lübke's place with a "Fatboy Slim" CD with
"RightvHere, Right Now" now it.
Lübke fired up his Mac and started running over the
track, cutting it in little, perfectly aligned slices,
converting them down to 25KHz 8-Bit Mono for me to use
in the demo, along with a list in which order to play
them.
The demo was supposed to be called "Forever STE" and
besides the soundtrack, nothing else was ever finished.
Oh, and the low color logo i made for an effect in a
hurry.
So the readily sliced samples and the correct sequence
were on my Falcon's harddisk ever since 2003.
End of 2003, Paradox was formed and while Paranoia was
never officially disbanded, it practically stopped all
activities related to demos.
But why now?
Until 2026. Until news about another "Buxton Bytes"
party spread. Until i learned about a "Sample Disk"
compo and thought to myself, why not finally give the
only piece of "Forever STE" a chance to gather some
public attention after all.
So i wasked Lübke whether it was okay to use it for
this occassion and he replied, yes, of course.
But what does it run on?
It runs best on Atari STE or Atari Falcon030. When
booted from disk, it runs on 1MB machines but takes
around 1 1/2 minutes to load and decompress.
It runs on Atari ST with 1MB using a YM-based
sample replayer using ray of .tSCc.'s D/A tables.
On Atari ST, however, it is very noisy in most
parts despite the fact that it's played at 25KHz.
There's so little memory left that there are no
fancy graphics, animation nor any effects.
But how to go on from here?
That's really all there is - just the soundtrack
and a little logo.
But what better reason than Buxton Bytes could there
be to finally dig out that sample sequence from over
20 years ago and use it for something than
Buxton Bytes...
Thank you ever so much, Tronic of Effect, for gathering
this incredibly friendly bunch of people here in Buxton
for no other reason than to spend time with each other
in front of their favourite computers.
Thank you also for having a "Sample Disk Compo".
The Paranoid signing off, 2026-05-09.
