1. What be this?
This is Trip, a realtime multimedia demonstration.  Everything is done with
your CPU and nothing is precalculated.   All graphics are rendered in
realtime with either software or hardware rendering.  Music is mixed and
replayed from an XM file.

2. How do I play it?
You don't play it, just watch and listen.

3. So why does this exist?
Trip was created for The Party 97.  You can find out more about it

4. Hardware Recommendations
Trip was developed on an Intel P166.  You should at least have a pentium
and a compatible sound card.  The demo has both DOS and Win95 versions.
The DOS version supports VGA, SVGA (1.2 or 2.0 LFB), and 3Dfx (Glide 2.43).
If you are using VESA it is recommended you run UniVBE beforehand to get
VESA 2.0 and LFB support.  This can speed up the demo quite a bit on some
video cards.

The Win95 version uses DirectX.  You must have DirectX 5 installed to use the
Direct3D version. Furthermore you need a 3D card for the Direct3D version.
If you want software rendering, my own rendering routines are used
with DirectDraw.

Trip has not been tested with Windows NT.

5. Troubleshooting

 DOS Version -
  - If something doesn't work, try shutting off the sound.

  - If the Glide version says it can't find a DLL, download the latest
    Glide drivers (currently 2.43) from www.3dfx.com, install them, and
    make sure the glide2x.ovl file is somewhere in your system path so
    the demo can find it.

  - If SVGA seems slower than other programs try getting UniVBE which is part
    of Scitech's Display Doctor (www.scitechsoft.com).  Running this will
    enable VESA 2.0 and faster fps.

  - If the demo runs slow... try decreasing the sound quality, and
    screen resolution, or buy a better computer (Intel based of course) :)

 Win95 Version
  - Direct3D version crashes... Make sure you have DirectX 5 installed
    properly.  Make sure you have a 3D card installed and it has
    at least perspective zbuffered gouraud texturing.  Alpha blending is
    also used in the demo.  Make sure the last 3D device enumerated by
    DirectX is your 3D card (ie don't use 2 3D cards).
    Still doesn't work?  Too bad :)

6. Statistics
Trip creates a file called 'stats.txt' after running which records a number
of statistics about the demo, including average number of frames per
second (FPS), average number of triangles per second, and average
number of triangles per frame.  Note that tris/frame is the total number of
triangles put through the 3D pipeline (not all are drawn).
