1-BIT ATTACK by Mister Beep [web]

"When music is playing, scroller must stop"

***1-BIT ATTACK!***
A mega-demo for ZX Spectrum 48Kb and its BEEPER.
Released in 11.2008.
Music - MISTER BEEP
Graphic - TRIXS
Code - JAD

This demo is dedicated to Z80 chip wich is (with help of ULA chip) main&native sound-source of ZX SPECTRUM 48Kb.
This chip and its specific sound has loads of fans among ZX Spectrum users - and not only.
Z80 chip produces all sounds and sends them to BEEPER and to AUDIO-OUT connector of ZX SPECTRUM (jack) through ULA chip.

Normally Z80 has only one channel of square-wave 1-bit sound. But Z80 is also ZX SPECTRUM's CPU (that's why nothing moves on the screen while music is playing :) ) so due to its 3,5Mhz activity (software mixing) Spectrum 48Kb has finally:
-from 2 to 8 channels,
-various modulations and envelopes,
-drums & noises,
-digital sound,
-speech synthesis,
-volume (it's impossible to make various volumes in 1-bit sound actually, so even this can be impressive)
etc... Still only 1 bit of course. I could say that everything mentioned above is theroretically impossible to make on this computer. But... it still works!

However I didn't add to the demo some of these features (no speech synthesis this time, no 4-8 channels this time: only 3-channels songs in the demo) because some progs/editors have no compilers (no possibility to add their results to own program. Grrrrrr).

************************
I could say that the demo is also dedicated to XXL guy from ATARI XE/XL scene, who decided to play Spectrum's BEEPER music with their 6502 CPU and GTIA 1-bit transducer. These works are still not finished but even now they can play 2-channel music from Spectrum's "Music Studio" editor and it sounds exactly like from Z80/ULA!! :)
3-channels music from ORFEUS is to come. Hehe, that's the spirit!! :)
