DTV@EVOKE live prize ceremony delay/ we are back

category: general [glöplog]
sorry sceners and watchers and friends;
You have all noticed our live was cut 12pm-1pm at the start of the prizegiving.

DTV is partnering with Scamp's very good VIPRINET and we need to allow some cuts to happen; you all know the score. This is also his room for improvment.
Scamp brilliantly managed to repair connection in 15'. We are now back for good.
We will release on DTV all missed part of the prize ceremony, esp the interesting NEWCOMER award prize and Sir Garbagetruck's scene message

Apologies/greets/thx Scamp

Thanks for your work.

Unfortunatly sound and image are out of sync by some seconds (sound comes first).

metapat : she's surely talking about the fact that image and sound were not synchronized at all.

metapat: yeah irokos is right. The image and sound were out of synch almost all yesterday, which wasn't so fun while watching the democompo (or any other compos where the synch matters). We tried commenting on it online but it never got fixed.

Sorry for making a quick comment, I thought it was obvious since I was replying to what was written directly above.

And in other news, the stream was far from stable, it stopped every 10-20th second for the whole evening.

(But then again, the whole internet seemed to be having problems yesterday, we had some 30k download from scene.org etc)

When I watched the live coverage yesterday, the picture lagged behind the sound for 3-4 seconds... so basically, you heard the crowd cheering and 3-4 seconds later you saw the effect :-) I noticed exactly the same lag during the Assembly coverage, btw. The Mp4 stream on the other hand was more in sync, but showed blocky artifacts for every 2-3 seconds, so i guess the stream was to inconsistent...

...btw, using 6mbs here and connection speed was fine. So I don't know what caused the stuttering in the Mp4 stream...? Technical issues aside, thank you for the nice coverage of Assembly and Evoke!

I can confirm that the sound and image was out of sync since yesterday while the democompo until the reset today after my comment here.

sync problems with dtv have been around since ages - even last evoke :(

What gargaj said. Plus, i had some problems with the image itself yesterday. Like some nice magenta big pixels showing up and shit, making the video impossible to watch, i had to refresh the page for them to disappear for quite a little amount of time and then they got back and back again. It depended of the time, like that shit happened only yesterday at the evening beginning, not for the democompo and so on.

There was indeed a big delay between the video and the sound on the stream.

Thank you again for your work anyway, it's really cool to be able to follow the compo remotely, even with the little stream issues.

Well, since the reset today fixed the stream it's now clear what to do next time first, so it is fixed from the beginning. ;-)

Yeah, the a/v desync has been around a while, but those who like a little challenge can always figure out the amount of delay, and adjust it in the decoder :)

Or you make a little game out of it: You listen to the sound from the crowd and have to guess the effect that will follow! :-)

That's what I did :D

Seriously though, I love the demoscene.tv streams. It's not the same thing as being at the partyplace, but beats waiting for the releases... :)

light travels faster than sound - you just have to put the speakers farther :D

So what message did Sir Garbagetruck have for the scene and are there any captures of it out there?

El Topo:

It was a moment of silence for Turtle, Xaztur, Groo/Essence, Teo, Derbyshire Ram, Buster/Blood, Vega, Cyberchrist, Spiral, and all those who have gone before us to get the big party on the other side ready.
Nice gesture! I think the scene.org awards are a very good place to honor all those on a yearly basis.
