horse renoir: This isn't a political discussion thread, feel free to create one on the bbs. But I'll tell you this: If you think the topic is fad, have a trip to russia where currently a anti-riot army of 2,5 Million soldiers is set up, have a trip to UK where these days each and every step you do is watched, or have a trip to one of the various EU countries that right now are going bankrupt, or visit one of the tons of countries where Internet access now is getting censored and anti-childporn-filtering-lists quickly got extended to no-criticsm-of-the-leading-political-force-filters. Of course it's a party theme, and we are making fun of the world going nuts, and by no means we wish to depress anyone, but the whole topic at hand sure is worth a serious thought, too.

well, I do have to say something about this.

Yes. This is important. I'm no follower of Zeitgeist-ish theories, but there is a capitalist hand trying to control the world with propaganda, hunger, war, yatta yatta and so on. It's an important issue that everyone should be aware. I know the dutchies are very keen on their privacy, I've lived there for 6 years and they are quite extreme - and I even agree. All these questions are DEAD important and there should be a weekly debate live in every city.

So with this I'm totally ok. But can we just forget it during one fucking weekend? Can we just party like there is no tomorrow? I hear it everyday: banks are bankrupt, money scandals, pedofile scandals, war, .... man, give me a break. Can't we just be there, be creative, be friendly?

Can't we just defend the scene spirit lost in the digital garden during a time journey with Papuamummi where the code inside was abducted by my alien demomaker?

Hey, don't get me wrong, you can even decide for "bollocks" as a theme, it's your party after all... But this is more than a "serious thought".

And btw, Scamp, you suck for not replying to my email. A "fuck off I don't have time" would have been great.

@jeenio,
That's precisely the one of the crucial points of resisting these pricks that are trying to destroy our lifes.
Getting together, socialise, chat, create and celebrate -> life!
"They" would rather see all of us hiding in fear, buying their shit we don't need on credit marching towards the edge like lemmings.

nope...this time - to go along with the motto - these wristbands will be replaced by implantable RFID chips courtesy of the new main sponsor - VeriChip Co. *evil grin*

I fail to see how any choice of a theme, no matter how cheerful or dark, would affect the basic way of celebrating Breakpoint: Being drunk for four days in a row with friends.

@skrebbel: exactly - that's why I put it in quotes

and now we have come to the point where we either start flaming over a bloody word in quotes and its meaning OR we can finally start/continue to pouetize this thread with pointless images - I suggest kittens in prisoncamps...

jeenio: I don't know where "ok, so the world is going down the drain, let's have a party" does not include having a party ;)

Just as "Digital Garden" didn't mean that computers were forbidden and got replaced by flowers, "Everything is under control" doesn't mean everyone will be locked into cages and has to be depressed for 72 hours.

So: Chill. It's a party theme, it has a serious background, and yes, Breakpoint is and the scene will be affected by that serious background (who knows which sceners from which countries will still be able to afford traveling to Germany for Breakpoint 2010?), but still: It's just a darn party theme, and the party itself is just as much about fun, friendship and competition as it ever was.

(And I've just replied to your mail. My current volume is at 250 non-spam-mails per day, depending on priority it's normal that it takes a few untils I come round to replying. Easy solution for the future: Don't mail me, mail the BP organizing hotline address)
