AI coding

Ban AI from compo is a way to make them die quicker than they already do :)

lol, tell that to the newcomers who come and support our parties *because* of our based stance against AI.

Seriously speaking and honestly curious without any curse words, I would like to ask Mr. Doob and other AI proponents: why would anyone want to watch, hear or experience any of stuff on the list? What would anyone get out of it? What would it give to the viewer compared to human-made stuff?

Thanks for asking. Here's my take...

After following the demoscene for 30 years I feel like we have reached the limit of what 100% human made demos can do (even when using Unreal, Unity, Notch, etc)

Back in the 90s the demoscene was the coolest thing computers could do. Since then making demos has become harder and harder and it's even worse because we don't have the amount of free time we used to have (work, family, kids, health, ...) These days most of the prods feel unfinished and I feel like the world no longer pays attention to the demoscene as it's no longer the coolest thing computers can do.

We sure have the talent and the dedication and I'd really love to see the kind of stuff we could do combining our skills with these new tools. After having experimented with AI coding for almost two years, I'm convinced the demos we could do would be mind blowing and super polished.

Don't be distracted by all those one-shots with little zero human direction. The human definitely is still part of the loop making decisions and directing the AI.

Here's an example something I spent only 5 hours on recently. Can't wait to find a bit more focused time to continue working on it.

If this is true, why do all AI demos look like dogshit? We were hating on people making low effort shit in old school demomaker, this is the same low effort slop but to prove that it will eventually make things good actually?

I don't know if I do any more demos but I'll never code without AI assistance ever again.

Yeah writing code by hand is so old-school it should
Be only allowed in the old school compos! 🧓

Oh! Maybe I'm stuck in the past.

Let me check the last demos made by these guys...

The Nonstop Pizza Experience 👀
Yofo 👀
With Pride 👀

Just to clarify...

That list are not categories.

That list are ideas for AI disclosures for prods to make compo judging easier.

Ahh honest disclosure.. an activity that LLM bros are famous for.

Just like consent.

luckily i didn't do anything for yofo but spkr was too lazy to recompile the credits scene :)
In the case of With Pride...

AI Disclosure:

No generative AI was used in the making of this demo.

According to Pandur LLMs have been used in the development of cables only
to periodically analyze code and to identify bugs in some situations.

That'd be Pipeline / AI-Tooling.

Lol, it seems you are even more clueless than before.
And it's kind of funny to read your discussions from "banned" position, when I really tried to break it down for you some time ago already.
So maybe you will find my post interesting or at least somewhat entertaining.

keneel, 4gentE, uncle-x: I can see you all speak from your heart. This is in some sense respectable. But you are also the one who try to enforce your views onto others (without their consent!). Insulting people, heavily spamming every single prod etc.. You definitely have lot of energy to fight against AI - maybe consider joining one of those far-left anti-AI groups, I've heard they are growing strong, you will have great future there, imagine.

For the rest, well, I actually think demoscene is *not* a good place to showcase AI capabilities. I did exactly this few months ago when things were still fresh (you may say "before it was cool") and at least it had some shocking value. I stand behind my AI prods. They were submitted to the right categories (compos that were allowing genAI) and not mixing AI with human work, so all your accusations against me are wrong. I also do today more hand coding (as a personal choice, not moral choice) than ever, so fk you!
But now, after those new model arrived, essentially better than human in coding on all fronts, it doesn't make any sense any more to show it off. AI slop is everywhere and anyone can do it cheaply (yes, it's becoming cheap too). The game now is really how to differentiate yourself from the crowd. And you don't want to be the common crowd, do you?

if everyone is doing it and it's everywhere… isn't what we're doing already, to differentiate ourselves, not be with the common crowd?
