rob: good noise demos vs bad noise demos, maybe?

Point.

Ah yes, the classic "so are you" routine.. which just proves my point I guess. :)

That may be true, but still I don't get it why people punish themselves by watching noise demos if they clearly don't like it.

But some of the groups that release noise demos (MFX and Flo for example) also release some good quality stuff, so it's not always obvious it's going to be that way.

Plus, like Gloom said, it's not entirely one sided. Look at the harsh comments against 3d flybys, Visualice demos and alike.

Quote:
I find the above somewhat funny in the context of the 2 prods that started this discussion considering all the different stuff the people involved in both have done during the years..

But I also recognise this and have a lot of praise for previous works. With a group like MFX, you really don't know what you're going to get. Sometimes I don't like it, other times I'm left in awe!

"ps and his minions take my votes personally I guess because I generally reserve my thumbs for hard work and talent."

That was basically a reference to all the friendship voting, ass kissing and politics that go on here in Pouet.

Quote:
And sorry Wade, I really don't mean to bash you or your opinions but that line just burned some nerves in my head :)

Then I apologise. It was not meant as a knock against your coding skills or the technical aspects of the demo. Perhaps I should have specified that I was judging from a purely visual perspective.

he thumbed up BPPB and Made of Bricks, which means that he has to be a nice guy!! ...OH, WAIT... ;-)

I guess now I'm going to have to watch those productions and comment. :)

Weak thread.

have you noticed how ASD still manages to produce appealing colorful pop stuff even when Navis successfully tries to venture into the dark side of 'different'/artsy/noisy/experimental design ? :D

(speaking about captive and the evolution of vision)
added on the 2008-09-24 16:46:03 by Zest Zest
But hey, that doesn't count because Captive isn't THE REAL ASD STYLE!
added on the 2008-09-24 16:49:20 by jobe jobe
Zest: I agree. But even when they're experimental, ASD demos appeal to me is because they have some real substance and form behind them.

one of the clear things that stood out from this thread is the huge misconception that just because someone doesnt like some noise demos or minimal/"artistic" demos means that they dont like noise demos, minimal demos or "artistic" demos in general. surely it is possible to have both good and bad noise demos, yes? :)

added on the 2008-09-24 16:54:50 by smash smash
Not really since they all looks the same. </bait>
smash: in the same way that media error is a bad demo ;)

Didn't we have this discussion already? Like, oh I don't know, a THOUSAND GAZILLION TRILLION BILLION TIMES?

wade: yeah. i'd love to see my humble prods ennobled by your comment. ;-)
all praise and bash are welcome.

about ASD demos : i think that Navis has enormous talent in implementing abstract creative visions and complicated concepts, while still having their visual appeal in mind. or in other words : he just does it, while other people are still thinking about how to realize things in code, or busy writing engines.

This thread makes me want to quit demomaking.

ps: but you only dont like media error cos you dont like cool, street-style demos with cutting edge tech! dont bring your narrowmindedness to this table, talk to the hand!
added on the 2008-09-24 18:18:35 by smash smash
knos: do you know any artistic subworld that ISN'T torn apart by stupid religious flamewars and ego battles ? there's none, and that's a good sign of vivacity/diversity/creativity.

at least the demoscene has got humor ;)
added on the 2008-09-24 18:21:03 by Zest Zest
*humour (fuck american!)
added on the 2008-09-24 18:23:33 by Zest Zest
there are artistic subworlds other than the demoscene?
added on the 2008-09-24 18:25:33 by v3nom v3nom

Damn Wade today it's your day :)

I wonder how the bashing will be when we release the next issue of hugi.. (ofcourse not judged objectively and only on that new issue but taken in account all (ep) stuff that happened in the past. Lets baygons be baygons I'dd say..

I second Wade's very first post in this thread.. A honoust and from the heart typed reaction. Now respect eachother different views/oppinions on things and let it enrich your own knowledge..

With friendly regards,
Magic of Nah-Kolor

p.s. it has no use to reply on this entry hear on pouet becoz it will probably end up in flaming and trolling anyway. For some constructive
