The Lasered Store Arbitrary February Giveaway

category: offtopic [glöplog]
I got the idea from some things I saw late last fall and some know I've sent various other sceners boxes of stuff just because or as a pick-me-up. Therefore I would like to introduce:

The Lasered Store Arbitrary February Giveaway

Why? Why not?

Details:
For $8 you will get a smallish package by mail. It may cost slightly more than $8 for those outside the US. I promise the contents are tangible, not mundane, and SFW (able to be opened in full view of your coworkers without issue if you so choose): so no gift cards, dildos, pr0n, etc. (I'm the wrong guy to ask for those last two things.) It is quite likely the contents will be worth more than $8 but less than $40. It is extremely unlikely you will get oldschool computer parts or manuals. There are 27 packages available for grabs. Please mind Wheaton's Law and keep one to a person. Caveat emptor: No refunds if you don't like what you got.

There is no requirement to post if you're participating or show off what you received. (Not that I could enforce such a thing anyway.) There is a longer FAQ on the buy page linked below.

Shipping:
I'm not going to mail random crap I find in my apartment so I hope to have everything acquired and sent within 30 days after the last package is bought. As I don't want to cause inordinate customs fees, let me know in the order comments if there's a limit on gifts I should try to stay below. If you will be changing addresses within 51 days (30 days + ~3 weeks margin for mailing internationally) I don't recommend participating unless you send it to a stable address such as a friend's, PO box, or Packstation. Addresses must be able to receive packages from USPS or their liaisons. Contact me if you need to change the address before I ship your package.

Getting in on the deal:
Visit http://store.asmcbain.net/products/february, add to cart, and check out.
While I believe it's a pretty nice idea, I'd suggest putting up some pictures of what MIGHT be inside. Not everyone might know what kind of stuff you work with, so I guess they should get a clue of what to expect. :)

I think that might make this a little less interesting or, dare I say, less fun. :) I have more interests than just laser cutting, and some of the things I have ideas for might be easily given away (categories of things) if I posted photos. I do give a slight indication of some possible bits in the FAQ, though not many.

Also I've updated the page's FAQ to indicate that yes, this goes in to March. I will try to answer all questions about this here and if I feel they're important enough I'll update the FAQ on the product page.
Hopefully I didn't cause any confusion, but I am just using that store because I already have it and it is easy to take orders through it in a manner everyone trusts. People may receive something laser cut, but I don't make any guarantees one way or the other. (The existing FAQ does indicate it's possible you could receive key fobs, but not as the only item in the box.)
I'm kind of tempted. I just worry being hit with import tax if it has to come from the US.

Well I'm not shipping anything that expensive, there is a cap at $40 for the value of the items inside the box. I can also try to keep what I send below a smaller value if you let me know in the order comments. (This is also noted somewhere in the FAQ.)
Well. What kind of payment options do you take? that's possibly mentioned somewhere on your store but i can not personally find that

Squarespace indicates which payment options they accept, which is a subset of Stripe's supported options (unfortunately).

If you're really interested and cannot use those options, e-mail me and we can do this via PayPal. I'd rather things be done through the store for ease of tracking who all I need to send to and because the store has a built in inventory so I don't have to worry about overselling the total amount I promised.
I can't accept anything other than the store options and PayPal because of how complicated it would be for me, unfortunately, and it would be nice if Squarespace supported the other Stripe options because then even Bitcoin would be on the table.

But if this is the difference between doing it and not doing it, by all means e-mail me for details. :) I'd rather people participate. My address can be found on the store itself on the various pages (FAQ, policy, etc.) as well as on my "demogroup"'s page.

Well you can't put out a thread and expect to not have someone attempt to inject some Pouetness to it. :)

I suppose so. :) Sounds kind of like it, actually, and indeed the lunar new year wasn't that long ago this month. Someone else compared this to W00t's "bag of crap", but I disagreed with the "crap" part. I'm not aiming to send things I feel are crappy.
This is still going on and there are plenty left. Check the first post for details if you're interested.

I am working on those I've already received, I hope to have some boxed up this week and hopefully sent out soon. While originally I had thought it would be nice to try and send them all out more or less at the same time, it seems nicer to the recipients and easier on me to just do them as I get them.

You should get a notice through the store when I ship them. Those who worked something else out with me, or will in the future, will get an e-mail from me when I do.
Is this too late i just got home to Sweden :P
Nope, still going. It'll go until I run out of slots (as noted in the first post there are 27) or I decide to close it, which isn't likely to be soon given the slow pace.
27 total, that is. I've had a few people decide to have a go, and I believe there's 20 spots left.
okay, will sign up for one later tonight then when i am home from an HP event :)
Done, one day late now only waiting for the gift to be shipped to Sweden land :)
Order noted, thanks. :)
