Geek music for demo nerds!

category: music [glöplog]
Hi guys!

I'm izioq, from France!

I'm a total noob in the scene but always had some sort of fascination about it since I've seen my first cracktros on my Amstrad & Atari without knowing what it was...
I was born in 1982 and my music is mostly inspired by videogames, comics, movies & TV shows from my childhood.

I've started to work with Fasttracker 2 and now I use Madtracker so I can export in xm (and, of course, mp3, wav, ogg, etc.) & I've released 4 albums so far (+ some tracks for small indie video games)

You can check my work here: http://izioq.bandcamp.com

Cheers!

Classic noob part II : " THE RETURN "

I realise it might not be very obvious in my first message but the point of my posts here is to find someone who might be interested in working with me on a demo of any kind.

I'll of course take care of the music... because I code as good as I post on BBS :)

I see you already found Wanted so that's useful - now you just have to wait :) In the meantime you can probably enter music competitions (with yet unreleased songs, of course :)

Thanks for the warm welcome, that's pretty cool :)

Yeah, I definitely would like to try to enter some competition with music or maybe GFX.
I'm thinking about Function & Evoke for 2016.
Sadly, I know that this year it would be impossible for me to move abroad but next year I'll definitely try to go at a party ^^

Oh, by the way, I'll leave here some codes for all of you to redeem as a welcome gift to download for free my last album (there's even a track on it called "My Love Letter to the Demoscene" :) )

You just have to copy 1 of those 20 codes here:

First of all theres probably more musicians in the scene than coders and graphicians combined, so dont be put off if no one starts running at you and beg for music - they are probably already covered.
Having that said, its probably a good idea to get some recognition with music entries in compos, once people start taking notice and like your music there will be opportunities to work on bigger projects eventually.
If you can make it to a party thats a really good start to get to know some of the folks and how they roll. Evoke is close and a really awesome party, so try to make it!

Oh and thanks for the album codes, I will have a listen later today :)

1st nice to see newbie on the demoscene - u have grown in nice times (as most of us) but even if u r noob its never too late to fullfill ur dreams :)))
2nd I agree with above, tho u already put ur music I would rather encourage u beside this to participate in compos if you wanna ur music to be recognized on the demoscene :)
3rd The parties in France already were held this year but still u can join Germany ones if it s a problem to go abroad, think that partying need sacrifice sometimes :)) (14 hours of travelling and more too:))

Thanks for the advice: yeah someone else told me the same about the number of musician, haha, no prob I'm not in a rush :) and that's why I'll also try to do something in GFX entries as I know some photoshop and I draw a little bit.

Going to Evoke would be great as it's not far... but this year the problem will mostly be a question of schedule. But I'll keep that in mind!

That being said I'd like to have your opinion about one silly idea I have: as I don't know how to code a single line but I'm still some sort of creative mind, I was thinking about trying to use some unusual tool to make a demo such as game engine. The only piece of software I know (a bit) how to use is Classic Construct: an old game engine that can export exe (it only requires directX9 from august2008 as far as I know).

Do you think I could try to make an entry somewhere with something made with such a tool? I mean, of course, the code will be pretty shitty and the filesize not optimised... but if the fun, the creativity and the freedom are still there :) could it work? Or am I some kind of demon to have such dark ideas :) ?

For info, Classic Construct >> http://sourceforge.net/projects/construct/files/

there are wild compos or Animation compos, or combined - these categories are more open, and meantime, more tools can be used.

there are demotools around you can use to do a demo entirely without a coder (demopaja, werkkzeug, vizor, tooll) you will have to learn quite a bit about graphics coding but you can do some nice things with them without needing to learn code per se.

guess the most recommendable right now are http://vizor.io/ and http://tooll.io/ https://github.com/framefield/tooll

Nice music, maybe you just want to visit the Evoke and put something into the music-compo.

The music sounds to me like a neverending James Pond dream. Can be scary at times. ;)

@psenough: thanks for the tip. I've already downloaded werkkzeug... well, I guess I'll have to dig that a bit more ^^

@nodepond: "a neverending James Pond dream" LOL... sounds like the best life ever :)

@psenough: the thing is, since I'm a kid, I've never managed to use the right tool to do the right thing... I mean: I've always made my "own" stuff and use things to do stuff they were not supposed to do (noting sexual here ;) ). The cons is that I probably spend more time than others to do stuff and my work is often raw & unpolished... however I guess that the pros is that it's more "personal"... at least it looks like me. I like raw & naive stuffs. That's why I definitely would like to give a try to my silly idea of using Classic Construct. But I just wanted to be sure that if I take the time to make something, I could show it somewhere: the wild demos compet sounds cool for that.

As long as it meets the rules of a compo I personally don't care what it's made with :)
added on the 2016-07-13 17:06:42 by Gargaj Gargaj
@Gargaj Yeah I also have this state of mind when it comes to creativity... However the "meets the rules" part is the only one where I have a small doubt.

As I said, I know nothing about coding: back in my youth I was a computer nerd until window95 but after that I've started to focus only on music and I've slowly lost the (tiny) skills I had on computers... What a shame... So, now, I'm not able to say if using Classic Construct would respect the common rules of demoparties or not.

As I understand it, it only needs DirectX9 (from August2008) to run the .exe ... I guess that in case it would need some DLL in a separate folder, that would not meet the standard of demoparties common rules (I'm not talking about wild demo but real time PC demos)... Am I right here?

you are wrong, including a dll on your zip meets the standard demoparty common rules just fine on most cases.

Hey Izioq, welcome to the demoscene. We have a party this weekend in the UK called Sundown. We have a tracked music competition which we accept XM's. We also accept remote entries. More details here. The remote entries deadline is 11:30 AM on Saturday but if you have something ready, send it in now :)

I recognize FL Studio in the tracks, the reverb for example and 44100Hz sample rate.

@psenough: cool, good news!

@djh0ffman: wow, that's a bit short to pull out something, specially if it's my first entry ever, I prefer to got some time to make something neat(furthermore my schedule is full as f*** till sunday :( ) but I keep your parties in mind, thank you!

@cxw: the pleasure is all mine mate!

Again, I'd like to thank all of you: I didn't expected so many feedback an advice... it seems like you're some pretty cool guys indeed :) :)
