Rebirth 4k

category: general [glöplog]
This genialissime 4k has been disqualified of asm cause of "ripped music".
- How is it possible to rip music in 4k without remaking the whole song ?
- Doesn't Moped by mayoneez and the boys have a well known ripped music ? (this is not to criticize this prod cause i love it, and the mozart song to)
- Do you thing the orga suck ? YES.
Rebirth is really great, adding surround music with mp3s quality in 4k is really fantastic, and the effects are nice, it should have been ranked 1st.
I FUCK YOU !

The music is ripped, because it is a cover version of a known song. While I agree that technically it's fucking brilliant and the synth is awesome, the compo rules state that copyrighted music shall not be used. As far as the effects go, those we already saw in Humuses 1-4 and the poetry in it was pretty horrible, but that's not the point.

The copyright in the music in Moped has expired, so it's legal to use it (in Finland copyright lasts for 70 years). Someone (probably the authors) asked about it in the Assembly forums a while back and they were told that it's allowed.

Ok! so the orga doesn't suck :)
It's clear now.

Ah. Ok. yes. that makes more sense. However, technically, it's a brilliant achievement, to have a tune in 4k that is so good it's considered a copy of a commercial tune.

I still don't like the ruling, tho, because I have a feeling that it may result in some folks making ripped tunes that sound slightly worse than the original just to say it's not a rip, see, it sounds worse. If anyone does that i will sit on them.

But anyway. ripping sucks, originality is best.
That synth is a technological breakthrough.....by far the best....something the pc scene didn`t like and disqualified the 4k. Shame on you peecee sceners.

^^ Somebody has problems in reading comprehension.

For your enjoyment, here's a (crappy) version of the original song:

Actually, the one in the intro sounds better :)

Zplex: the pc scene loves it, it seems the reasons of the disqualification are really correct. The only thing that sounds strange for me, this is "why does we look if the copyright has expired ?", cause for me and lot of people, I think that a ripped music is a music which have already been listening by people or something like that... What have the copyrights to do with the scene ? tell me a demo/intro which don't use any ripped texture or objects... no I know it exists a lot but...
Drink VodKa, don't drink milk !!!!!!!!!!

Is there a video of the intro available somewhere? Or is exploder going to release the intro somewhere else to cash in?

It's not really about ripping as demoscene it considers. Assembly is so huge event with a lot of media attention that they must obey copyright rules as strictly as possible. Since old copyrights have expired, Assembly organisers have no problem showing a demo with it, but they have with something with existing copyrights. And even if the tune would be a bit different, but has a melody or whatever element (chords, etc) exactly similar to the "original" tune, it can be considered copyright violation by law. That (and only that) is what it is all about.

I have a complete Digital Video recording of the entire 4K compo, including all the amusing yelling beforehand and during to turn off the fucking crt displays. :-)

...but I'm not home quite yet.

All those trolls were apparently right. The scene must _really_ be dying, when even a simple cheesy trance tune can't be made without ripping.. :)

No, the scene dies when cheesy scene peotry does ultimatly reach the realms of 4k intros.

Nobody cares about the results from asm since they ALWAYS disqualify shitloads of releases.

I'm sure that Exploder would have got the legal allowance to use this song (ie. levying the copyright for this release), if he asked the author/distributor. But -- I watched the video at scene.org and I think that the pc intros were way much better than this. Could you tell me why did this intro got the most votes at the party?

Hey everybody, let's enter ripped classical tunes to the instrumental compo at asm next year since using such material seems to be no problem for the organizers.

..and/or the finnish copyright system.

Now where's that separate compo-category for orchestrated music? ;)
added on the 2004-08-10 08:15:48 by el-bee el-bee
...and the separate compo for "slow, boring guitar/piano-climpering music that fades down after 03:30".

man what a fucking drag that compo was. (and actually; i'm -not- just saying that because my entry didn't qualify :) though if anyone would like to hear it, it got uploaded to scene.org)

Sorry to disapoint you stealthz, it's not the C64 charset, it's the sexiest of sexiness, Topaz.font 8!

The only music compo at Assembly is "Crappy Orchestrated/Piano/Guitar/Swedish Pop" compo. And that's why I won't even try entering a tune anymore, unless the compos are changed.

So it would be to add a new compo to other music too ;)
