Do you think that 300 photos of Leia drinking beer is worth watching?

category: residue [glöplog]
leia: oh get off that high horse of yours and stop being such a drama queen. everyone is entitled to an opinion about everything, and i choose to say that people who are non-productive and contribute nothing to the scene are annoying. if you feel taken back by that, it's not my fault.

gloom: so i guess being an editor in several mags back in my amiga days, (oh and swapping, which you seem to put so high ;) , making several productions (and now i'm not talking only about joke prods but the ones that actually got high placings; winning democompos and the liikes), organizing parties, organizing groups and being a slengpung crew isn't participating enough for you :)

and the only thing i reacted to was that you seemingly consider me as a "hangaround" :)

leia: my point was that i never mentioned you. you did.

gloom, what makes you think that lancaster has anything to actually do with the scene at all?

atleast in finland we have been boozing as long as there has been any scene.

and most of the boozescene are much more intresting to hang with than some coders who only talk about stupid geek stuff.

"boozescene" .. interesting. I have witnessed something like that at the local railways station. But I would have never guessed they'd have something interesting to tell.

ARE YOU UNDERESTIMATING HOMELESS PEOPLE?
THEY HAVE PLENTY INTERESTING STORIES TO
TELL IF YOU HAVE DIME TO SPARE!!!

gloom: you mentioned "the only two scene girls" and didn't mention me, so that means i don't belong to the category of scene girls :)

"and most of the boozescene are much more intresting to hang with than some coders who only talk about stupid geek stuff"

What do boozesceners talk about?
nosfe: if he's not involved with the scene, he sure has spotted some of the same stuff that i have, which makes him okay in my book. btw; that "stupid geek stuff" is what makes the scene interresting, atleast it is for me. if it happens to be combined with some beers and good friends, great stuff, but 100% boozing isn't my idea of what the demoscene is about.

leia: i just don't think of you as a scene-girl in that way then, i suppose.

I do not get the point. I thought the scene was about meeting with skilled and interesting people. If you do not want to talk to "geeks" (drunken or not), where is the difference to your local neighbourhoods mob?

gloom: because i'm not skilled enough in your eyes? :) your attitude just sounded like "the only real people make things i like, and if i don't like it they're not real people".

leia: that's not what i'm saying. my point is that my (personal) way of looking at things is that admiration and respect in the scene comes from achievement, not from knowing a lot of people/stories and boozing, which i guess was mr. lancasters point as well. which again, is why i said that i found many good points in his article.

don't misunderstand - i'm not elitist in any way, i just believe that the scene is for creative/skilled/productive people. that those people always come with hangarounds is a given - i just don't have to call them sceners if i don't feel like it.

a contribution to a sosiaty makes you a part of it, small or big, who cares at all? even a commet at pouet.net is a small contribution, but it makes it so much fun to be a part of the scene and make prods, if you get feedback on your work. Its also fun to meet many people at parties who just wants to get drunk and brag of his/her newest invented sado-game.

Demoparties like Asssembly is kindof designed for boozing only, since all the deadlines is so fucking early..

At other demoparties with later deadlines there usually is more people producing stuff at the party, I acctually prefer the later one, since boozing all day is simply no fun.

MoT: are you this irresponsible ? cancelling "free demoparty entrance for girls" tradition would seriously threat demomaker race reproduction and scene life continuity !!!

Just wondering, but since when does boozing at parties exclude productivity? What's wrong with finishing your stuff before the party so that you have more time to hang out outside with some booze and your friends? Don't sit behind a computer all day at a party, you can do that at home.

sparcus: well, not everyone has enough time to make demoscene stuff at home.
