ports of older productions: different prod id?

category: general [glöplog]

Are we favoring the elimination of separate production pages for ports of other productions? (Say a port to Win32 of a DOS demo.)

Some people say you should put the link to the ported version in the comments and not add a separate production page, but then you won't find it when you search the database for Windows demos, because its listed as a DOS demo.

What do you think?

yepp, i think there is no need for separate pages for ports (unless it's downporting like second reality c64).

its the same demo so why linking it twice.
and who really cares about 5 or 6 old demos who got windozed? no one.

xeNusion: as I said -- it won't show up in searches because once a prod page is made you can't change the set of platforms on which the prod runs. Burying the port link in the comments just means that you will have difficulty finding the port.

Legalize: I thought about that problem, too (mostly because of w32-ports of mac/linux/dos-demos). The best solution would be an additional link for the port. Thx to the 5 disks you can use this links for your evil purposes.

New pages for the port of old demos were the main reasons I didn't noticed the port that fast I normally would.

And: I don't see a problem of contacting a Glöperator and say "hey, we've ported that demo to that platform. please add this information."

Final words: Be nice, think about your requests and then go and ask ps for it. :)
It's a shame pouet wasn't around in 1998, when dos demos were released as finals with windows executables as well. Double glops, whoot! Every update of State of Mind would also probably be a bonus glop-fest too.

Barely any of the win32 ports merit separate entries. Time to be a bastard and send them to ps' unpleasantly long to-do list :\

Well, I think that a new link should be added, just like the "video" link, except for ports. All platform under the "ports" would also automatically be added to the platform type. Shouldn't be that hard to implement.

MadenMann until recently, asking a pouet gloperator to do anything was a black hole, which is why people created new pages.

If they update pouet to have the ability to add ports by providing a link and this is reflected in the platforms of the searchable database, then that would be great.

Until then, I expect duplicate pages for ports to continue. Its not the ideal solution, but IMO its the best intermediate solution since it allows you to find the ports by searching the database.

Linking in the comment section is better than nothing, but not as good as having the ability to search the database.

dudes, it doesnt matter.
either change platform to also include "windows" along with ms-dos and dump the url on the comments or just create a new id for it.
