Serious thread: How does photo manip play a part in demos?

category: general [glöplog]
I am very photo based in my demo art. How are other demo's influenced in that way?
'We' (mfx) have never really had a proper graphician (and if we did, we failed to employ them properly) so most of our demos feature photomanips both as stand-alone images and as textures.

This has always unfortunately had the problem of 'can we show this outside the demoscene context due to possible copyright issues'...

uncle-x: are your graphician's supplying enough confirmation that their artwork is based on either thier own photgraphy or existing stock?
uncle-x: at the other side, you get other opportunities by using "premade" pictures. I'd say you can more easily play a lot more with popular culture etc when you can simply pick and choose.
Patrick: so you decided to troll up your own thread? :D

anyway, i think photomanips can be pretty cool when done properly (fthr's artwork comes to mind for example)
question is, what you use the photos for - running it thru a simple contrast/saturation/etc. combo or actually doing something with it.

Both are photo manipulated.
Oh and from non-copyright I might add.
heh, i have to admit that this was a really neat way to lure people into shameless self-promo :DDD

I'm not interested in self promo. What I want is a Pouet thread that doesn't have some fuck head spouting off bullshit that isn't demo related every three posts.
Oh and I don't mean you Gargaj.
Bottom line is that it's all about whether the graphics fit the demo or don't - not necessarily about the technique.

^^ Agreed. Just like in coding, the technique is meaningless. Only the end result counts.

patrick: we really don't care;-) Sure its always nice and preferred if the work is based on 'own stock' but its not 'mandatory'.

Dominei: spot on!

But if you're not checking your source isn't kinda like turning a blind eye to stolen code?
Patrick: oh, no way... it's like "borrowing" code as everybody does with music players or jpeg loaders.
We always credit "the internet" for the gfx part, so it's not ripping ;)

not sure about photomanips in general, but the usage of photos appears quite often in demos since ages, which is a good thing.

Patrick Groove, you may want to check the MaWi-demos, especially (but not only) the PPC stuff.

Ah geez, now I got to go and install an emulator... hahah.
Or just get the videos, they are _always_ better than an emulator because they are from a real machine... ;)
Gargaj is right : FTHR/TPOLM !!!
