Breakpoint 2007

selectanovel, charging extra from people participating in a compo is a superdumb idea. discouraging people to make prods is never a good idea, except maybe for the pc demo compo which always lasts too fucking long.

which reminds me, i think it has been mentioned before but it still would be a good idea to have a special category for invitation demos so that they could be shown elsewhere than in the pc democompo, maybe run them for a few times over the party so they would get more exposure and the pc democompo would be shorter. so, everyone wins!

Invitation Compo.

Wow.

... I haven't been this ambivalent since Rob Halford came out of the closet.

nosfes idea about the invitros doesn't seem to me to have any drawbacks at all. You should do it.

skrebbel: How many premium tickets did you sell at SE?

okkie: I don't know all the statistics but a lot of the Western Europeans attending seem to have a lot money to burn, judging by the cars they arrive in, the laptops they bring, etc. If 50 of them would be willing to pay 100% extra for nothing really expensive in return, that's more than 10% of the missing moneys right there.

Maybe VIPs could get a hug?

jumping back on the "supporter ticket" topic. at the CCC Congress in Berlin every year and at may "hacker conferences" there usually are tro differen prices for entrace. one "normal" ticket that is about 40 euros or whatever and one "company ticket" that goes for about 500 Euros or somethng like that. Reason behind that is that some/most companies can write that off as an "off-the-job training" for their employees or have fixed budgets for things like that. maybe it could be argued that going to breakpoint is some kind of "getting to know what is current state of the art" for some of the atendees employers. or whatever, just thinking...

maybe VIP tickets should be available? (for more money ofcourse)

Including:

Meet and greet with the famous BP orginizers
Going Backstage In The organizer area
Have a good table near the bigscreen
Including some eat and drink coupons
vip sleeping area (unless some1 booked an hotel already)

etc etc

just an idea (work out the details yourself) but I think this could generate some extra money

sticking an extra 50c on the prize of a beer is a good way to charge those that have the money and not those that dont.. :) (by my estimates that would make my entrance fee go up by like 50e or something :D)
oooor if you need to guarantee it, do a "booze ticket" for 100e which includes all the beer you can drink.. ;)

hm. many funny ideas in there :D

student or distance reduction: too difficult to track. maybe make it free for people coming from russia - thay *do* have the change problem and need all the troubles/paperwork for visa. for this year it's too late anyway.
and then, if you come from us/ag/au it means you have money for the tickets anyway...

supporter ticket, donations, : extra money wouldn't be sized to the budget, so...

dropping girls-enter-for-free: maybe changed into free donation. some money almost for sure and more sensible to "discrimination" might have a way to contribute financially. costs just a couple of words at the entry and a box.

and scamp, if the transports are expensive on your budget i don't think anyone would complain for buying a kind of "travel card". 5€ hahn/bp, 5€ for access to the hotels/bp busses. or again, free contribution.

mack: well, there ARE international student IDs, so it shouldn't be completely impossible to give students discounts, but I don't know if being a student is the only factor that should qualify one for a (five finger) discount ;)

i'm a student at TWO universities, i should get double discount!

Ok, apparently some people think that I am capable of pulling off the "Convincing organizers that I flew in from the states" bit.

First of all: the chances of me finding the infodesk manned with complete n00bz who would believe I'm Phoenix, not Truck, or some other US Scener during the 'kick everyone out and make them pay' ceremony - yeah, not gonna happen. It's safe to say that ALL the organizers know who I am, and anyone who didn't would be standing next to someone who DID know who I was, and from where I'd flown.

(No, giving someone else my towel and hat, saying how crap everything is compared to MY party, Pilgrimage, and calling everyone Eurotrash - still won't work. Wouldn't even get a laugh.)

Secondly, the only reason I'd use a 'student id' to get a discount would be to see how many discounts I could get while buying 5 tickets to support BP, or some other stunt like that.

I'm more than happy with Preacher's suggestion, and will do it even if again this year people question why I'm paying when I'm part of the entertainment. (Cuz it's Breakpoint, and it's worth paying for.)

On a completely different note -

Steam's company ticket idea DOES have some merit. While I'm obviously on vacation during BP (what with the extra time for practice and all, I have to reserve extra time off) - I do have an easier time of convincing folks that I'm going to a 'Computer Festival, where I will be meeting many other computer professionals, who happen to also be artists. It's a conference, and like many conferences, there will be celebrations..." Now I don't know if I could convince them to write off the expense of a 500 euro ticket, but hey, if I had an expense report, it would go in there, and no one would ever question it. (Course they'd never FIND it, either.)
Indeed, the company ticket thing is a good idea. In the past we had quite a few people requesting a receipt on their entrance fee. We could easily charge them x2 for getting a real company invoice. (However, in the past this only applied to maybe 10-15 people, so this won't cut it ;)

Btw, any kind of "paying more money gives you better seats" etc stuff is not an option at all. I don't wish to rate sceners by their wealth.
