we have been asked before, but we never found any time to do it. and i don't think the intel 30sec demos are "tech" demos.
Demos and tech demos are quite different. in a tech demo you are supposed to show what the new type of 3dcards can do, with demos you don't have too.

Ati's Toyshop is the best technical demo I've ever seen. As a Nvidia owner I've only seen the video, but it's incredible!

i'd like to see some of the new coders etc go back to 8 bit machines, and work with the "standard " machines, fair playing ground. I'm sure some would do amazing things .

kudos to the many c64 people / groups who pushed it WAY beyond what its supposed to do.

work with limitations, then thats the real test =)
old64scener: The modern gfx-API's have limitations too, you know. Especially if you try doing something which is not standard. The problem is that with newer api's it's harder to tell what's hard and what's easy.

Here's one example: At one point in http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=30055, in the upper-right hand corner, there is a nice distortion effect. This is super-easy with pixelshaders and a little tricky without. (this demo does not use shaders, btw. ) There are plenty more examples, of course.

My point is that it's not neccessary to go back to the c64 in order to meet a challange.

Hyde: That effect would be easy to do it in software too and would pose no serious strain for the cpu, at least not for an oldschooler like Keops.

Shrimp: the CPU is the ultimate pixelshader in some ways ;) But seriously, yes, there are lots of ways to do it, but that was not my point.

It's actually easier without shaders. But it would look a lot better and run faster with.

Stefan: exactly.

ok, which group is going to release the very first *justified* DX10 demo ? :P

Hyde:don't get me wrong, I like the new demos. just the thing that impresses me moreso these days how they squeeze so much into 4k or 64k etc.. obviously its compressed and expands in memory etc and generates code, art, music etc on the fly.

the pc has come on in leaps and bounds since the cga/ega days.hehe

That ATI "Toyshop" demo is great.

And runs OK on an X1600Pro whaddayaknow. But ATI have no idea how healthy people move a mouse (ie. with fingers and wrist joint, not torso). Anyway nice sound effects.

Beer+Weed gives me a lot of metaballs.(no im not gay)

And when hangover opamox helps a bit.

Oh well, when real life comes out, i think: Boring!

Then i watch TOP 10 Sir Clive Sinclair demos and im like...wtf? These are better than CPC demos. Have to write to pouet about that.

And my best wishes to Evil/DHS.

T-180 and its coming. And bigger you never dream of. Patience, the work is already started.

Coo! :(baldur's gate series)
