anti-art is art too! (look at e.g. the effect of Dada)
You guys remind me of Fred Phelps and its minions of the WBC who like to picket military personel's funerals with their cries of hate.

I don't shit on your icons, so stop pissing on what we find important.

but I don't think the guy ever meant for you to take him seriously

Tell that to his students.

There would NEVER BE Kraftwerk without him, and there WOULD NEVER BE TONS OF OTHER THINGS without Kraftwerk.

don't forget the guy who invented the wheel! there would never be cars to transport hardware to Stockhausen! so there would never be kraftwerk! so there would never be aqua!!

Someone else whould. Beside I'm sure millions of enigineers whould have invented the wheel some weeks (months in the worse case) after that guy. It would be just a matter of time, they were all researching it for years.

knos scores a very important point here.

Knos: don't get me wrong, I'm not taking side and I don't care, people are free to love and appreciate different thing, fortunately.

I just found Nosfe's message so much more close-minded and aggressive than the ones from the people he was actually bitching at for being close-minded. Even a cracktro zealot wouldn't have made it any better :)

Hmmm, some of you guys are actually serious and not being sarcastic? :O

I don't want to upset you, but err...I don't know if you noticed...his music is completely out of tune.

I thought you were just humouring him, like Monica, Chandler and the gang humoured Ross when he did this sort of stuff.
added on the 2007-12-08 16:59:50 by Flunce Flunce
Out of tune and doesn't have a common pop structure (and oh shit, not even a person of African descent speaking crap on top of it). Thus, it has no value, obviously.

I go with knos and especially nosfe.

YOUR definition of 'out of tune' is not the same as MY definition of 'out of tune'!

Also, "discussing music!"

Even more, "discussing avant-garde music that is supposed to be groundbreaking"

In other words, nobody will ever win!

I wish there weren't a thread about this on Pouet.

Anyway, he lived a long age and produced an impressive life's work - I hope I can say this about myself when my time is near - and he had more influence than a million Internet trolls combined. Rest in peace.

Did he ever try any more melodious and conventional music. I'm just wondering if he actually COULD or if this stuff he did was a cop out. I mean, if he truly was a talented musician who took a less conventional direction, he would at least be competent at the fundamentals of music.

If you look at Aphex Twin for example. He does his experimental and minimalist stuff but he can also produce really tuneful music too.

I'm starting to realise you guys are not joking about this guy, but I still think he was a hack.

Very academic and clinical approach to music. It shows that he was interested in sound and soundscapes, which he obviously found to be more stimulating and interllectually satisfying than "conventional" music.

TOPIC: R.I.P. Johann Sebastian Bach
BODY: Oh man, J.S. Bach died. He was pretty alright, I mean he is the biggest enduring name for a particular age in classical music!

Broderick, krabob, some other sceners: oh no way, RIP :(

Buttler/Alarm: I had no idea who this guy was, so I looked on wikipedia. Actually I got bored and downloaded half of some J.S. Bach tune off limewire. Four part harmony oh my god what an idiot. I can play 4 part harmony with my hand and my penis on a toy keyboard and still post about how much J.S. Bach sucks on pouet BBS. And why does he make all his tunes MIDI? Seriously... is this guy for real?

okkie: [various constructive comments]

amiga scener: FOAR CHANEL MODZ!111111

Buttler/Alarm: Ok I hear what you're saying but I don't see what's so revolutionary about the guy. I mean, those songs are like the stuff my mother sings in the shower. Has he ever tried to do a nice sensible drum and bass tune?

hempest: word, yo motha sings when the OrganMaster starts playin!

I didn't mean it literally. If my opinions upsets people they need to man up and stop being so sensitive. I'm entitled to my opinions and I'm not ridiculing the guy or disrespecting his death, but I do think he was a hack.

There's plenty of Britney bitching going on, but why is that any more acceptable than dissing this guy? Because she's still alive? Because she's mainstream?
