NVScene 2008!

category: general [glöplog]
NVScene ! [And the invite for those who haven't seen it]

Monday, August 25 - Wednesday, August 27, 2008
San Jose, California, USA

Fun stuff.

Anyone have pics of the demoboxes? What do they contain exactly?

And for the organizers:
How do I know if I'd get a demobox after signing up? :p How about the NVIDIA Registered Developer stuff? And etc? Just so we all know.

Also, this seems to indicate the NVScene area will be shared between demosceners and game modders and others. That's gonna be interesting.

Demobox:
Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS 512MB (Alpha Dog Edition)
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500
2GB of Corsair RAM (DDR2-800)
XFX nForce 680iLT SLI motherboard

At least that's what I got. And I'm really interested in the registered developer thing. Any more info on that?

Are you sure it's AlphaDog GTS?

I'm pretty sure you mean GT, since XFX doesn't manufacture (?) GTSs...

Game modders, yes. Hardcore gamers, no. :)

apply for a free demobox kit which you can use (and keep) free of charge to make your demos.

Where's the snag? Do we sell our soul to the devil or something?...

the snag for most people is that they actually need to get their asses up and do something :)

Gargaj: .. and actually travel all the way to California :)

From what I've heard, nvision will accept web submissions, so no traveling required.

Actually, it's not really bad to travel to California either ;)

Just a question ( I 'm asking that seriously ) : What is the reason behind having the party in the US knowing that the majority of sceners live in europe ?

This means : not many attenders (note I would be really pleased to discover a large amount of unknown US sceners). Did you talk about this point to Nvidia ? What was their reaction ?
Like many other ( I suppose ) I would be glad to go but the travel expenses and taking a week off (taking the whole familly with me is something I can not afford) is really discouraging.

nytrik: none of my business (again) but NVScene is part of NVision that is held alongside iGames Expo (a pro game show) and ESWC (pro gaming). They call that sygerny you know ;)

Repeating the question in the first post...

When can late-comers (i.e. after-Breakpoint registrants) expect to get feedback regarding their demobox applications?

(in the vain hope that someone knowledgeable is listening here)

all applications are registered and we will review them - we had a huge surge of registrations after and AT breakpoint, so we have to find a way to deal with all of those.

decision considering the boxes (from which we only have a limited amount of) will come in the following weeks and all signed up groups will get a notification email whether they'll get one or not.

in other words, without the PC crap, don't worry, we're working on it, and our position isn't exactly easy considering that.

That is a truth with modifications. NVScene is arranged in a separate area, and is NOT in the same hall as the ESWC and etc. If you check this page you'll see what kind of people will gather in the NVScene area. :)

Very soon. However; if you signed up post-BP, the odds are probably against you, since a lot of people signed up ahead of Breakpoint. Still -- everyone will be emailed very soon.

in even more condensed form: we will let you know everything in time.

Nytrik: I guess they organise a party in the US because NVidia is already supporting existing quality demoparties in Europe, such as Breakpoint for example.

Gargaj: Thank you for the info! I am not surprised you received a lot of submissions after BP with all the publicity you got there. Well, have fun reviewing the applications, then. ;)

it's business.. give 10 people a free computer, then 1000 people -in order to watch it- need to upgrade and pay the real deal! :P
