Texture size questions ...

Mali, Tegra, no... SGX!!!
the SGX is in fact a very nice GPU. we do some very very low-level stuff at work and the design is really powerful. never had a chance to get my hands on a mali or tegra though (except playing around on exhibitions)..

jar_, where do you work? I am at IMG (although not directly working on hardware or drivers).

reading all this, you must really hate OpenGL

This thread is a really nice reminder as to why I switched from GL to DX.

As long as we can do cubes, both are fine anyway ;)

hamburgrlr: I work at NEC, doing multicore and GPGPU research..

keops: yes, I also switched from GL to DX9 some time ago for similar reasons. But actually I am thinking about switching back, because handling of window resizing (esp. multiple windows/viewports in an editor), resource losses etc. are really ugly imho. And you can write debug renderings much easier with GL. But ok, GL is also butt-ugly :) (wglShareLists, bottom-to-top textures, blabla) Ok, gonna stop the gl vs dx debate now :)

as for dx9, you could perhaps find comfort in the idea that at least you're handling it yourself instead of various driver layers driven by unknown assumptions/heuristics

(on the other hand you can say that the majority of code is probably worse off, so well)

how about some coffee gentlemen?

Man, How I'd love to work on low-level stuff again.
All this "fixing-20-year-old-applications-having-been-ported-between-3-different-platforms" I do atm, with programmers that have never learned what object-oriented means and don't-give a fuck about code conventions and documentation... It really pisses me off.
I need to change my job probably...

Puh. Am I ranting? Noo... ;)
