teh futare of human interfaces in 10 years

category: general [glöplog]
microsoft futurologists seem to be diehard fans of spielberg's minority report and apple's ipod : beautiful new world ?

so... how do they plan to power all those giant touchscreens everywhere on every dumb smart object with the current energy crisis ?

No. But I love that new HP.

too much work for your shoulders and traps

touch stuff is cool, but i wouldn't want it as a main work surface. Even with smooth glass, the friction still makes your fingers sore after some use. Wake me up when they make something with frictionless glass, or something that can be oiled without getting messy.

psonice: there is already some research about virtual touchscreens where finger movements are detected by several cams.

no more flipping off the screen i guess then :(

that would work for some stuff, but you really need some physical contact for it to work well and feel right.

lol you recognize ideas bill gates had 10 years ago (and wrote about in a book)
Mr. B.G. always copied other's ideas ... in a clumsy way. Enuff to quote DOS or OS interfaces...

I wonder why the heck all these so-called futurologists (or at least a big majority) underestimate the power of humans' thought.
All these visions look like a sci-fi movie from the early 80s. We all know that human-thought control devices are under the tests in the secret military areas.

One more thing, in the video they forgot to include the adds...

I've seen most if not all of these ideas in books more than 10 years back, so that's pretty meaningless.

Anyway, the ideas are pretty meaningless, it's hardware we want. Fingerworks and a few others were the first to do anything serious with touch control, apple bought them and made the iphone which is the first serious bit of consumer kit with this stuff, microsoft have their surface table thing which looks cool if a little pointless and impractical.

What I want now is a desktop OS with it, that uses it well but still works well with a keyboard + mouse. Seems microsoft will be first with that, with win7. Lets hope they get it right, and somebody makes some decent hardware to use it with. Apple are building touch stuff into 10.6 too, which could be out sooner, but I don't see them doing a decent sized touch screen device any time soon :/

10 years? 2012 is the end!
About that keyboard thingy:

Don't you think that more and more low power computers are being sold? That's specially important being that there are multicore processors and lots of ppl are buying computers with celerons and atoms, and integrated graphics...

I like that eee keyboard above, but is't it the same price as an equivalent laptop? ISn't it like just chosing between a screen (on the laptop) and a realsized keyboard (on the keyboard)?
The should make a version without the touchscreen, for €150 or €200. But I have already too many low power computers at home, and not a a single decent one ;)

I just came back from cebit.

And i saw a way to point on the screen with your eyes, pretty cool but a wee bit inaccurate at the moment.
