pouët.net

why is there no graphic category on pouet?

category: general [glöplog]
Lug00ber: I couldn't say it any better indeed :)

if i want to see them the only option is going into the scene.org ftp directories, finding the right zip, download it, open it and start again for all other prods.

wont it be a lot easier to have this category with right results directly on pouet ?

Tigrou: No, it wouldn't. You can get the whole gfx folder on scene.org's FTP in one operation, whereas on pouet you would have to get the download links from every single entry page, which would actually be much longer.

Pouet can't be about everything, for various reasons, some of them being performances, others being readability.

Feel free to create a website dedicated to your needs, if it doesn't already exist (http://www.mudia-art.net/ ?).

here's a thinker: non-party released musics.

i think it would be good to add gfx & music, just limit it to things that have been released at parties.

there is this artcity/bitfellas page where you can watch eatch single entry of asm and other recent parties.
i dont see a reason for putting everything on pouet.
would just lead to a endless bunch of not scene related crap getting submitted

So, something is only 'scene' if it was released at a party?

In the case of graphics and music, that may not be a completely wrong way to look at it. And it would probably work as a way to limit the number of crap submissions.

if it would be "only party-released stuff on pouet" or nothing" then i would opt for nothing, because "only party-released stuff on pouet" would imo completely discourage anybody from releasing stuff outside of parties.

Do like the amstrad CPC scene : release party things in packs. This way executable music can fit in musicdisk category and executable graphics can fit in slideshow (or they can both go in demopack if you think it's better).

Seriously, the gfx I released at some amstrad cpc parties don't deserve a pouet page on its own. But when put with all the other pictures from the party (which is how these are usually released, anyway), it's worth keeping them on a floppy around.

Otherwise, Artcity is fine.

I think procedural graphics is some kind of grey area, no one is sure if they are demos or gfx, so they ended up on pouet.
So, while we're on the subject.. where is the best place to put exemusic?
