Monthly Best of Software.

I know there are a few threads that cover this but....
I want to setup a monthly best of roundup of s/w based on use (ie. email clients, ftp clients, browsers, graphics programs etc).
Most of my suggestions will be linux-centric, cause that's what I use.
Jump in with your best software for the job each month - bonus points for freeware/FOSS. Include links if you can be bothered.
This month is email clients.
I first started using Sylpheed (there's a windows port) and shifted to Claws Mail when it was forked. On windows I have also used Thunderbird.
Claws is the lightest and fastest I've come across (particularly with large mailboxes). You do need plugins for some stuff but non-the-less the best email client I've used (continuously) over about 6 years.
