For any prod, what order are groups listed by in the title?

category: music [glöplog]

I am a fan of the Demoscene although not a coder, artist or musician myself.

What I am wondering is that when you click on a prod which has been made by multiple groups, what order are those groups listed by on the title part of the prod's page? Level of involvement in the prod's creation, alphabetical, popularity of group - what?

It's a pain to organise MP3s of demoscene prods, especially when you don't know what order to put the group names in for the title tag :)

usually in the same order the infofile lists them, order or involvement in the prod's creation. that might have been remodelled on pouet 2.0 though.

For my Demoscene MP3s, I debated for a long time to use the order Pouet uses them in, but figured out that listing them in alphabetical order (using acronyms like FLT for Fairlight whenever there are any) separated by + signs was the best way, the fairest way. At least it's easy to see what I'm looking for.

what ps says. i'd tag music with the composer's name only, but whatever floats your boat i guess :)

Yeah, attributing a piece of music to a group rather than a musician is a somewhat strange thing to do... (hello keygen music websites, I'm looking at you)
My MP3s are made from the prods, not mods, that's why I do that. Although I do have some standalone tracked mods. Besides, I'd like to know where the stuff came from.

I always go with simply [Artist] - [title of the track] (or the name of the demo, if the former is not available)

Well, just use the comment field for that!

What about mods/tracks that have more than one author?

Why did noone yet just interfered with the Obvious:
It´s at no point about what Groups did the Demo the Soundtrack was released with...
...it´s always just about the Musician itself!
Why order Playlists after Groups that released Demos WHEN you could (should!) order lists by the composers!

Oh, wait, before having posted this i started backreading for 3 seconds, atleast Saga Musix said so!
My comment: you are doing nonsense there ;)

what about this order?: Clawz - BombzCodedYou.ogg (included in: "Assteroidz you´re after!" by FLT/ATZ/BOMB/KEF/POLKA_ALL_THE_DAY)

Easy, do it as every other Site, concerning the same stuff you are doing, is doing it!
i.e.: Just make a double-Link for both the Composers!
In that case I just go with:
[artist1] & [artist2] - [title]

Sadly, order is not always obvious, but there's not much one can do about that. Except for contacting the author, but doing that for every mod is... yeah :)

they´ll call you anyway if they feel (or just find out) they got robbed!
so just expect no calls! :)
Demoscene was about no-commerce from the beginning-on!
If not the CrackingScene show(s/ed) off how to fight off the ongoing Capitalism that is Dictating our Pseudo-Democratisms, who is?
Or in other News: Who ever was since the 80s?
FUCK DAT SHIT! REd PILL! NAH, BLuE BILL! JUST GIMME BOTH, A$$HOLE!
Hey, hey, don't think for one moment I plan to sell anything to do with this, this is solely for my own use! I value the Demoscene's commitment for non-commercial stuff!

I've thought of an idea, anyway: Just mention the demo title and the year of release, that should simplify things greatly - I'm already familiar with a lot of the titles and Pouet.net will always be around to do searches if I'm not sure. It will solve my immediate problem, anyway, and what's more, it'll be an interesting chronological look at the evolution of the Demoscene.

Foebane:
Thanks for that then!
We, the everlasting, always (in our sparetime, which is rare) producing coding-machines thank you for your approach to try to show more ppl what hobbyists are able to do in their FREE-TIME!
IF JUST EVERYONE WOULD TYPE IN CAPITALS - nah, everyone is able to move the planet about his/her own axis so THINGS CHANGE...a bit! maybe two bits!
just do a website with a proper database backend to help you archive and quick search all soundtracks of all demoscene productions. i think demozoo might be working on that.

Also, Nectarine, BitJam, etc ;)
When I said I had MP3s of Demoscene productions, people seemed astounded that I had the actual productions themselves, in audio format only, and not MP3s of the individual mods that make up each prod.

Amiga prods are a case in point: these demos from the 1990s can consist of several mods and so forth, so why should I have them broken up INTO those mods? Much better to contain them as heard within the prod, I think.

Take Audiomonster's "Nebulos" track - for many years I enjoyed that by itself, not knowing where it had been featured, until a Google search shows that it was in fact in TSL's "Ice" demo. So I d/l'ed that video, turned it into an MP3 and gotten much more out of it since then.

My Demoscene MP3s consist of not just prods, but mods, but it seems both have more than one author sometimes. With Pouet.net's aid, I could easily reduce each prod to a title and a year of release (no group(s) mentioned at all), but the tracks/mods are harder to date.

So it seems I can't actually win.

I'm not sure i understood what you're trying to do but maybe these sites can help (with nebulos as an example):

Those sites have certainly proven useful, yes :)

in case of mods, always check the sampleNames...they tell a story pretty often. mostly not unveilin where the .mod got used, but giving hints on where to search on etc.
Indeed, at least from AMP and Modarchive you can check sampletexts without downloading the tune. IIRC on AMP this works only with Amiga modules and S3M's. Can't remember if you can read them from xm's too at Modarchive but it could be so...

Considering the naming scheme, it would still make more sense to use artist names instead of group names, though - e.g. "Skaven & Purple Motion - Second Reality Soundtrack" or something like that.
^^^ that ^^^
