Distro wars!

category: residue [glöplog]

Now this is a fairly specific post concerning a couple of linux distributions.
If that doesn't interest you then feel free to click on the next link that looks interesting.

Ubuntu vs. Debian?

I run nearly a hundred clients headless boxes on debian. I can rcon these machines easily to do routine maintenance which means I have a minimum of onsite visits.

I use a desktop with debian (wheezy x86_64 net install with xfce and gdm-core) but recently I've installed xubuntu (12.04 x86_64 alt.) on this lappy ("/" is on an external ssd and "/home" is on another ext. hdd).

Debian has it's "kick in the nuts" won't break down appeal but then again all the ubuntu ppa's out there give you a lot more choice - so here's my question for those of you who use/have used either of these distros.

Debian's stability as a desktop or (whichever flavour of) ubuntu?

Went from C64 to Amiga, then to Slackware and QNX and Win3.11, to OpenBSD and then to Windows.. there are no wars, there are just principles, practicality and stuff fighting. :D
