the view that art must involve visible labor, technical mastery, and so called "effort" is typical for working class aesthetic (Pierre Bourdieu). It makes a lot of sense why, if you think about it. So, no, in general low effort doesn't necessarily mean low value.
Context is king, in the demoscene which is the context we're talking about, attributes like creativity, effort, growth and technical prowess are highly valued so yes, this means your prod is of low value since it doesn't show any of those. You might want to say that the value in this prod lies in inciting this very conversation which I'd partially accept, however the conversation would be a lot more fruitful if you actually did something cool with it (like some artists I follow), showing the creative potential of these tools rather than just dropping some slop which is exactly what the majority here despises.
Furthermore I'd love to hear you elaborate on your argument of low effort != low value, I don't think it holds, certainly not in the demoscene but also not in the general sense, looking at market economy principles requiring low effort to yield a product leads to ample supply aka reduced scarcity which is like *the* key factor determining the value of goods and services. This is literally why the economy has such a hard-on on this technology, it massively devalues knowledge based human labor. - isokadded on the 2026-03-18 17:09:12
