- The self-voting was a total mistake, I thought I had to add a vote under Pouet 2.0 for the post to go through. If someone can edit the database to take my selfvote out, that would be appreciated, thanks.
I swear I'm working on the write-up and will try to have it out in a few days. There's a lot to cover. I'll post here when I have it posted somewhere.
@Oswald: Artifacts are last-minute mistakes on my part and are present in the production. - isokadded on the 2014-06-17 21:16:42

- Glad y'all enjoyed it. I will definitely write up how I did it at some point, since I felt I came up with some very creative solutions to the problem. For now, enjoy a capture from the actual 1981 hardware: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWdG413nNkI
DOSBox runs it fine with mode=cga, but the colors are slightly off (breakdancer is red, but in dosbox he shows up as purple), so the youtube video is preferable. - rulezadded on the 2014-06-17 07:57:38

How fast is PCjr? How many cycles left per frame at 50hz?
What is the information about the video mode you invented?
What is the sound? Sounds better than beeper. Adlib?
PCjr is 4.77MHz 8088, same as the first PC, however the first 128K of RAM is treated as video memory so it runs with an additional wait state. Any code that runs in the first 128K runs at effectively half the speed of the original PC, making it slower than a C64. Obviously, I do everything I can to NOT run code in the first 128K, although interrupts must obviously access that area.
Cycles per frame at 60hz? Not sure, I never counted, but 8088 takes 4 cycles to access every byte, even instruction code, which sucks. Sometimes the smaller code runs faster than the "less cycles but larger" code.
Video mode I invented goes into graphics mode but then sets the video "page register" logic for text mode. This allows the hardware to double each scanline, changing 160x200x16 into 160x100x16.
Sound is the build-in TI 76496 (same chip as Sega Master System, BBC, TI 99/4a, others). 3-voice squarewave (mostly), with a 4th noise channel that can be either periodic or white noise in three predefined frequencies... OR you can have the noise frequency be programmable, but you give up the 3rd tone channel to do so. 16 logarithmic volume levels. - isokadded on the 2014-01-16 17:26:00

- demotool MS-Dos Dr. Track
- Now available with full source, I recompiled it for 8088 and it actually works.
