- demo XBOX TEH ROBOT by Limp Ninja [web]
- there is a notable difference, but you probably haven't read either one of them and are probably basically too stupid to grasp their contents anyhow.

- ryg: that is true, but in practical situations i haven't seen such fillrate-wise advantages (our cross-platform rendering system ofcourse sports that very difference between the PS2 and Xbox implementation) coming from it, probably mainly because multilayer polies aren't drawn all that much yet; but particle systems have once again proven to be real killers. extensive usage of them (as in legacy of kain: defiance or the latest lord of the rings game, both out on ps2 and xbox) resulted in the xbox gpu choking every now and then, and the ps2 version, even though it (ofcourse) looks shittier, easily grasping it.
the 'nulpunkt' would probably come a lot closer when the artists would've used lots of multilayer polies, thats a point, but what if they didn't? :) the difference is just quite big. - isokadded on the 2004-01-02 16:48:24
- demo XBOX TEH ROBOT by Limp Ninja [web]
- but not backtraceable since xdk's are leeched from xds.xbox.com and thus do not carry around a license-specific tag, making it hard to identify the source of trouble, and thus not profitabl for them to adequately research these things. and even if the coder of this demo has an official license, this action would be plain illegal.
besides, you really don't want to use anything else besides the xdk (and perhaps some extra (gpu) info).
besides that, 'much more horsepower than expected' really has it's limitations; the cpu might not be slow, but memory access is, in practice, rather horrible, the gpu has it's culprits besides the fact that it really doesn't even come close to the GS when we're talking about fillrate. so if we're talking expensive discomapped opaque polies.. elsewise, mwoah.
to put it short: big deal :)

- demo Windows Kärlek vid brunnen by THCOutput [web]
- i fail to see exactly why he shouldn't have used openGL in this demo but whatever.. atleast managed to get no music and crap moving at 5 seconds per frame on my screen even though i own pretty decent hardware.
next time around, pick up some info on proper win32/ogl system programming. - isokadded on the 2004-01-02 07:38:59

- quite excellent i must say! a really lacking on the visual quality in terms of graphical fidelity, but certainly full of nice effects, ideas, synchronization, colors.. you name it.

- demo Windows fr-036: zeitmaschine by Farbrausch [web]
- i really hate to see the bashing going on here between lthe 1st and 2nd ranked prods - i enjoyed both and found them visually and musically pleasing (i wonder why people ramble about paniq's track, i must say it really accompanies the presented visuals well and creates a certain mood, just good stuff imho).
the whole display adapter vendor support thing is merely a detail, not something to endlessly trip over, certainly not if, like the kolor guys gracefully did, admitted that it was a matter of production focus (very understandable, it's more fun to spend the little spare time you have on building an actual demo than writing several codepaths for an engine (which should be redundant, but thats another discussion, really)); disappointment is okay, bashing people over it continuously is just plain boring.
back to the subject; both demos were quite different, but i really can't say that one is better than the other; it surprises me that people present their opinions as a fact a little too much to my liking, since as a_lee_n already stated, taste in these kind of things is so to say, 'fucking subjective'.
where i wanted to go: both are obviously productions with a solid quality level, each with their very own direction. either like or dislike, but as opposed to a *lot* of productions here (totally indiscriminately in respect to who they come from) i think it's unfair to say that either one is crap.
oh well.. uhh. yeah, i'll get back to the beer now :) - isokadded on the 2003-12-31 22:22:09
