- intro Amiga OCS/ECS Green Ground by Spreadpoint [web]
- Loving this very much too. Programmed by Mark. As far as I can remember, I joined Spreadpoint shortly after it was released. The demo is definitely called "Green Ground" and not "Hot Stuff". I then used the logo in the Wooow demo. To do this, however, I had to place it on a line (with Deluxe Paint) and make it narrower (e.g. marry the letters A and D). The yellow-green color scheme in the 2^5 Years demo is a tribute to Green Ground.

- invitation Amiga OCS/ECS 68k Inside 2024 Announcement by Spreadpoint [web] & AFWD & Dekadence [web]
- AFWD's "68k Inside 2024 Announcement" invitro for the X68000 caught my eye immediately after its release. That would be a great idea to port it to the Amiga. First I made a call to our (former) coders in the Spreadpoint chat. This would be a good opportunity for someone who wants to get back into Amiga programming. But I couldn't let it go anymore. Actually I had other things to do (Easter 2024 is coming quickly) but I just wanted to find out if the Amiga can draw so many characters at 50fps. I start my first attempts on a quiet Sunday morning. Sprites were out of the question because there are more than 8 characters/sprites on a line. So I started with blitter bobs. It quickly became clear that the initialization of the blitter was not in good proportion to the size of the small characters. So the CPU still remained. And I implemented a little “trick”. The eight lines of a character are each drawn with an or.l instruction. Depending on the position and pixel data on a line, an or.w or no instruction at all is sufficient. I was amazed at how snappy it was. As a test, I simply positioned the characters using values from a sine table. And so, the spiral/barrel effect was created by pure chance, which we later used for the (illegible) greetings (including the TTE).

Here it was still hi-res. In the end I had to switch to low-res because the additional bitplanes for the logo took up too much system time.
The whole code is generated for all possible x positions of a character. See the generatedrawcharcode routine in the source code. Unfortunately, I forgot to turn off or invalidate the caches and the demo crashes on CPUs >= 68020. Thanks to MnemoTroN for noticing it (after the release). I should have given it to you to test in advance. :-) And thanks Bifat for your code that handles caches. I will use this in future productions if necessary.
In a next step, I contacted Duet and Codise from AFWD with the request to supply me with hand over the assets/gfx. Bracket from Dekadence came along and we exchanged ideas in a WhatsApp chat. All three are great guys. Bracket had specially recreated the logos for the Amiga so that they still looked nice with 16 colors. He succeeded. Looks great.
Lord ultimately made the music. A heavy remix of Ricky Martin's original version. I really like the 7 minute track. It hammers and rattles. Just beautiful. Tastes are different and you can't please everyone. That's absolutely ok. Let's all remain friends and keep the demoscene as a unique subculture where everyone is welcome and experimental things are allowed.
See you soon!
Finally, this. It would be nice if the demo was ported to additional 68k platforms. The Space Shuttle also runs a 68000. Rumor has it that people at AFWD won the lottery. Do you still have a budget? - rulezadded on the 2023-12-05 18:31:05
