- demo ZX-81 There Are No Limits by Noice [web]
- JAC: You're correct that on the ZX81 the CPU is responsible for outputting the gfx aswell, meaning that as soon as you have something onscreen, the CPU is occupied by that, so once you have gfx on the screen, the only available CPU time is in the blank area below and above the screen.
You're also correct that the ZX81 can only display ROM (unless you solder in some mods = cheating). But by selecting the right ROM area, and overriding the video-output routine with your own code that fetches a new char every rasterline routine you can get a 256x192 pixels pseudo-hires mode. That has been known since the early days of the ZX81.
However, trying to update 32x192 bytes every frame when the only free cpu time is in the border is not doable of course.
The new invention (wohoo, I always wanted to do a world-first!) in this demo is that with some more trickery I get a mode where I can pick from predefined 256x1 pixels lines, and thus only need to update 192 bytes per frame to get these effects running full framerate. - isokadded on the 2010-09-26 18:56:02
- demo Windows MF Real by Kewlers [web]
- White loader-bar goes to about 80% or so, then nothing happens.

- Yeah, nice to see some more sizecoding on an 8-bitter!

- demo Atari XL/XE Reditus by Zelax
- Some of the heaviest 3D stuff I've ever seen attempted on an 8-bitter.
Texturing/shading and objects that seems to consist of rather many polygons.
Framerates suffers ofcourse, but it is a valiant effort.
I wonder how much is realtime and how much is precalc considering the amount of RAM that is needed to run it, but the low FPS seems to point towards realtime (unless it's all fake ofcourse!) :D
Only thing I don't like is that I can't run it on my 130XE since it requires some custom-built RAM expaonsion. - rulezadded on the 2010-08-13 00:37:46

- Yeah, Conspiracy is back! Or uhh.. yeah, whatever they are called now. ;)
I thought this was going to be the winner, really solid intro altogether. Those quick blurry shots of the volcano-eruption has an almost photorealistic feel to it! - rulezadded on the 2010-08-09 01:29:20
- demo Windows Happiness is Around the Bend by Andromeda Software Development [web]
- Ever since Lifeforce, the fans have wanted more, and now we get it!
Great demo, Navis showing his usual fantastic attention to detail.
The dynamic object-morpher is really cool. I also noticed very nice DOF/motion blur etc. so the technical side was very good. The music that many seem to complain about worked for me, typical ASD style, and it fits.
A worthy winner. - rulezadded on the 2010-08-08 15:56:25
- demo Windows Ceasefire (all falls down..) by Carillon & Cyberiad [web] & Fairlight [web]
- Yeah, the FLT "everything-is-a-particle"-engine taken yet one step further.
Fluid/wave simulations looks really good.
Runs a bit slow for me, even at really low res (especially the part with the balls flying above the water). Perhaps the engine likes nvidia cards better?
Anyway, both technically and designwise, this is brilliant, it got a very professional-trendy-design-studio feel to it, music is also of pro quality.
Only minor complaint is that the glitching is a bit too extreme in the end, maybe that's why people missed the "fucking phoenix" ;) - rulezadded on the 2010-08-08 15:21:41
