- traumazero: certainly the 128 version should work fine on any ps2.0 card really (ati 9600 and up), just might be slow with lower end cards. we even tested on that hw and it works. if it doesnt it's because of driver issues, most probably.

- jco: as it says in the info file, dont run it on a fx5xxx series card. their performance particularly on ps2.0 and floating point rendertarget stuff is incredibly poor. (ive got one at work, so im well aware of it's (lack of) capabilities :) )

- demo Windows Genesis by Outracks [web]
- needed a driver update to see anything, and didnt reset my desktop size at the end.
quite an odd and messy product. some nice ideas but nothing is that well implemented - e.g. the growing plant just draws itself onto the screen, there's no scaling or growing involved; the clouds (and snowflakes) were so obviously just some sprites - needed some shader work or dof or fog or something to look good; the 3d looked seriously like coder art (but hey, at least you burnt AO into it :)); you used lensflare at all; the cutout figures didnt really look good; the black growing lines thing has been done so many times now..
could have been a good demo if it wasnt a big mess.

- at the party i just didnt "get" it at all, it was a bit of a sensory overload. watching it at home it made a lot more sense. =)
some lovely scenes in this - the glowing "grass", and the explosions for example. - rulezadded on the 2006-04-19 13:43:43

- there is a video in scene.org incoming now waiting to be moved..
about the tech aspects:
the guitar part is not a sample, if we had room for such large samples then i'd really be impressed with myself. :) i wish i could take credit, but it came out of reed messing about with the synth and getting a sound that worked really well.
rendering-wise we have:
- normalmapping
- precalced ambient occlusion on everything
- realtime soft shadows (variance shadowmaps, which is why it's sucky on ati cards with no floating point texture filtering), but you probably cant tell it's realtimel cos we never moved the light
- dof
- outlines and cellshading in traditional style, but it's not bugged this time (unlike che)
- skinning and a multichain ik solver with a lot of other procedural anim stuff we can apply to it, all of which we hardly used actually, due to lack of animator's time to use it :)
- after trying a load of ways to do the cracks, i ended up with some simple form of realtime csg solution that works well and is fast.
- a modeller that isnt based on primitives at all, apart from a ground plane :) but again, i guess you cant tell because we didnt make good use of it.
- we had a few k left with about a week to go, and so we filled it with rather more k of 2d graphics, and had to optimise all over again.
we went more for a nice design and fun concept rather than really showing what we had technically and doing a 10 part beast. im quite crap at showing off fx anyway. :) hope it was enjoyable, cos i really enjoyed making it, a lot more than the previous 64ks we did. =) - isokadded on the 2006-04-19 12:36:01
