- demo NEC TurboGrafx/PC Engine Shipping is a feature by Punkfloyd [web]
- Good music and obscure platform -> thumb up
It feels like it's possibe to do better visually on the turbografx though. - rulezadded on the 2011-11-23 10:25:14
- demo Atari Jaguar NyanJag by Jagware [web]
- Again, I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't thumb this up :)
Compiled virtualjaguar to try it - it worked. It pegs an entire core on my i5 though, making the thing slightly laggy. I guess the Jag is too rad for my laptop to handle.

I hope what I said above didn't come out too negative :o - isokadded on the 2011-11-17 11:11:00

- OK, this was a strange one. I can't make out what the speech synth is saying (polish?), so I won't comment on it. What that QR code is I have no idea.
Anyway, then main feature here is obviously the music, which is rather good. It uses a four-channel square wave synth with 16-bit frequency accuracy per channel. The amplitude of the channels are half of each other due to the way the carry bits are ROL:ed into $81, which is then fed into AUDV0. This means each channel corresponds to one bit in AUDV0 (I think). In other words, props are in order for a clever way of getting a decent and lean synth out of this thing.
Clever as the synth is, it doesn't make up for the lack of visuals and a number of technical problems. First off, the number of scanlines per frame is entirely inconsistent - first 260, then 239, then 292? This confuses Stella, making the music sound very choppy, but works fine in MESS. I haven't tested this on the real thing yet though. Is this done in order to get the correct tempo for the music perhaps?
Finally, it'd be nice if at least the waveform was visualized via GRP0/GRP1 or something.
Thumb up for the music but piggie overall. - isokadded on the 2011-11-17 00:23:01

- The music was good. The water/star thing worked really well.

- I enjoyed it. Music was great, visuals were good (just not as great). Definately a thumbs up, especially for being a first 4k prod

- 8k demo Atari VCS ISO by JAC! [web] & Jakub Husak
- Very nice.
The pacing could have been a little better. I like the way the text is done and using the ball to give the twister a shadow. The music is also pretty good. My plasma remains undefeated though :)
A worthy winner overall (haven't seen the compo results yet - I'm taking sim's word)
In the future please don't use AUDCx=4 and AUDFx=0 for silence. This creates an annoying high-frequency beep around 15 kHz in both MESS and Stella. I'm not sure what happens on real hardware yet, but I suspect the same.

- Even though it's somewhat fun, it's still ugly and a trollprod. Were it done a bit more tounge-in-cheek I could have settled for piggie.

- demo Atari VCS Minute and a Bit by Tjoppen
- Ferris: Yeah, I'd have to agree. I'm not really much of a musician, but luckily I had the sense to keep it short.
Sdw: The rotozoomers were probably the easiest to pull off. The goal was to one-up ilmarque's framebuffer rotozoomer since it only updates a quarter of the screen per frame - these ones redraw everything (since they don't use a buffer), but with lower horizontal resolution. So it's a bit of a toss-up.
The plasma is also a one-up, being quite a bit higher res than the one in Doctor :)
oasiz: I still have several pages of ideas to try out, so no worries about future VCS prods.
JAC: Add your prod :) - isokadded on the 2011-11-13 23:00:33
